Samuel Merritt ABSN Spring 2022

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for students who are applying for Samuel Merritt's ABSN program for the Spring 2022 cohort since it's due on July 1st. Feel free to ask questions and/or post your admission stats if you'd like. I went to a couple info sessions, so maybe I can answer some of your questions. To anyone who is currently in the ABSN program or have completed it, I would love to hear your experience and thoughts about it since I have heard mixed reviews.

Here are my current stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.90 (Though I am still completing some pre-reqs this Summer/fall)

Science GPA: 4.00 (Taking pathophysiology this fall)

TEAS: I took it twice and luckily SMU will take the best scores from each individual section between the two. However, I don't know how they would calculate that since TEAS scores are equated based on difficulty. If I were to calculate my score based on my best results it would be 89%

Letters of recommendations: One from a Human A&P professor I had, who I also TA'd for after completing the class, one from a nurse, and an optional one from my boss at my current job (part-time food service employee).

Volunteer experience at an Emergency Department, TA'd for a Human A&P class for Sac State's ATS program (I don't know how relevant this would be since it wasn't a college course. ATS classes are meant for middle school/high school students who wish to enrich their knowledge in subjects of their choice).

Good luck on your applications everyone! You got this!

Anybody who applied to San Mateo campus heard back or received any update(s) yet?

I believe a lot of people have heard already? I’m on the San Mateo list as well and I haven’t heard anything back yet!

I believe people are still waiting for San Mateo. I thought the only people who have heard back were for the Sacramento Cohort.  My number 1 choice was San Mateo and I have not heard anything back yet.

I attended an information session on the 24th and one of the SM admissions counselors said the SM acceptance letters were anticipated to go out by the end of the month. Today's the 30th so, hopefully soon!

??? oh loorrrdd I sure hope not.  My anxiety! I’ve been super anxious about waiting to hear back, so I can know if I need to start applying to other schools or not.

January 2022! It’s approaching almost 90 days before program starts and no response yet! Crossing fingers

@Murse Mark

Hey there!

I was wondering how you were able to defer? (not specific personal info) I'm waiting for word on San Mateo for January and also had another opportunity come up so I'm interested in learning what makes someone eligible for a defferal. I couldn't find that info in the handbook.

Also, did you receive info about orientation yet? I noticed on the calendar that January Sacramento dates were posted for October orientation but nothing for San Mateo. Assuming they haven't set those dates yet but thought I'd ask anyway!

Thanks,

ssRN

@ssRN

I also wasn’t able to find anything about deferral in the SMU material. I believe it’s on a case by case basis.

After I was admitted to the fall 2021 cohort I emailed one of the admissions counselors with a formal-ish letter explaining my situation and asking for a deferral. He forwarded that letter onto the dean of admissions who granted my request.

As for orientation dates, AFAIK they haven’t posted anything yet. They have the calendar for last years Spring cohorts, so you can kind of guesstimate that it’s going to be somewhere in the first or second week of December.
