Hi everyone!
I wanted to start a thread for students who are applying for Samuel Merritt's ABSN program for the Spring 2022 cohort since it's due on July 1st. Feel free to ask questions and/or post your admission stats if you'd like. I went to a couple info sessions, so maybe I can answer some of your questions. To anyone who is currently in the ABSN program or have completed it, I would love to hear your experience and thoughts about it since I have heard mixed reviews.
Here are my current stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.90 (Though I am still completing some pre-reqs this Summer/fall)
Science GPA: 4.00 (Taking pathophysiology this fall)
TEAS: I took it twice and luckily SMU will take the best scores from each individual section between the two. However, I don't know how they would calculate that since TEAS scores are equated based on difficulty. If I were to calculate my score based on my best results it would be 89%
Letters of recommendations: One from a Human A&P professor I had, who I also TA'd for after completing the class, one from a nurse, and an optional one from my boss at my current job (part-time food service employee).
Volunteer experience at an Emergency Department, TA'd for a Human A&P class for Sac State's ATS program (I don't know how relevant this would be since it wasn't a college course. ATS classes are meant for middle school/high school students who wish to enrich their knowledge in subjects of their choice).
Good luck on your applications everyone! You got this!
@Rdhlucas So you applied a year ago. What are your current stats? I lack experience in a hospital. But there isn't anything I can do about that right this moment. I know they take a lot of different students (academically)... and they take 35-40% of the applicants. But what are your personal thoughts on the application and acceptance process? I know thats a vague question. But what are your thoughts and tips.
Hi all,
I applied to the San Mateo Spring 2022 cohort! (And the Summer 2022 cohort as well, chose Sac (Spring) and San Mateo (Summer) as alternates; I live in Oakland so that would be awesome but I'm just trying to start ASAP!)
Here are my stats:
Science GPA: 3.75
Last 60 GPA: 3.87
Classes in progress: Pathophysiology (Fall 2021)
HESI overall: 94% (Math: 98%, Reading: 95%, A&P: 92%)
LORs: 1 from physiology instructor, 2nd from a former colleague, 3rd from RN instructor (for my CNA course though, I'm not sure if she's going to get it done in time, makes me nervous....)
Experience: I'm working as a CNA, just completed the certificate, and hoping to gain more patient experience until I get into a nursing program and maybe while as well. Volunteering with American Red Cross since Nov 2020 where I help donors check-in and etc.
My main concerns are that I had a C in nutrition from so long ago and that my RN recommendation won't come in. Does anyone have insight into those factors? Would love some positive encouragement.
Good luck to everyone and I look forward to checking in with you all during the application process!
Thanks,
ssRN (I know the username is a little presumptuous. Just trying to make this dream a reality!)

What do you mean the ABSN is online? As far as I know they are planning on being 100% in person by Spring 2022.
