Samuel Merritt ABSN Spring 2022

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for students who are applying for Samuel Merritt's ABSN program for the Spring 2022 cohort since it's due on July 1st. Feel free to ask questions and/or post your admission stats if you'd like. I went to a couple info sessions, so maybe I can answer some of your questions. To anyone who is currently in the ABSN program or have completed it, I would love to hear your experience and thoughts about it since I have heard mixed reviews.

Here are my current stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.90 (Though I am still completing some pre-reqs this Summer/fall)

Science GPA: 4.00 (Taking pathophysiology this fall)

TEAS: I took it twice and luckily SMU will take the best scores from each individual section between the two. However, I don't know how they would calculate that since TEAS scores are equated based on difficulty. If I were to calculate my score based on my best results it would be 89%

Letters of recommendations: One from a Human A&P professor I had, who I also TA'd for after completing the class, one from a nurse, and an optional one from my boss at my current job (part-time food service employee).

Volunteer experience at an Emergency Department, TA'd for a Human A&P class for Sac State's ATS program (I don't know how relevant this would be since it wasn't a college course. ATS classes are meant for middle school/high school students who wish to enrich their knowledge in subjects of their choice).

Good luck on your applications everyone! You got this!

What up y’all, I just differed my San Mateo ABSN admission from fall 2021 to Spring 2022, so I’ll be seeing some of you in January!

Good luck, and stay strong! SMU was like a month and a half later than they said they would be getting back to us so don’t worry if you don’t hear anything for a while.

Hey everyone! I applied for Sacramento Fall 2021 and was waitlisted 26.

  • BS in Kinesiology from CSUF
  • Last 60 GPA: 3.64
  • Science GPA: 3.47
  • HESI: 91.6%
    • Reading Comp: 94%
    • Grammar: 84%
    • Vocal: 86%
    • Anatomy and Physiology: 96%
    • Math: 98%
  • LOR: My current supervisor, Microbiology professor, and area manager from previous job (optional)
  • Experience: Four years as a DSP in a foster home for medically fragile children (central line care, gtubes, ostomy, preparing and administering TPN + Omegavin, etc.). DSP, CNA, BLS, and CPR certifications.

Good luck! ?

Hi everyone. I am excited to find out if we all get in. This is my second career and has taken me a while. I applied in June, and here is my info.

Science GPA: 4.0

Last 60 units: 4.0

HESI: Math (96), A&P (92), Reading (84), Vocab (88) =89.8%

I may retake reading and vocab for HESI. I was burnt by the time those tests came around in the four hour test. I asked SM and they said there wasn't a need to. 80+ is all they require.

Prerequisite GPA: 3.7 (My STATS class in 2002 was a C. I'm retaking the class in October for 8 weeks to raise my grade to an A. That will bring my Prerequisite GPA to 3.85).

I have Patho in Fall. Just updated my application with my Micro and Pharm class (A's).

Degrees: Masters in Education, teaching credentials. Special ED teacher for 5 years for EGUSD.

Letter of Recommendations: Nurse from Sutter, Chem Professor, Co-worker Educator.

I really hope I get in. But I do lack in hospital experience. I am going to see if I can volunteer, but with Covid ramping up it could be hard to do so.

Good luck everyone.

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all doing well. Does anyone have an idea in regards to when we should be hearing back? I know that there is a published application timeline for the ELMSN program, but I am not sure about the ABSN program. Are most of you thinking of applying for the 9/1/21 deadline as well? I hate having to bother my recommenders so many times.

I think we will hear back from them by October 2021. For Sacramento location that is.

Hi there!

I applied last year and found out October 23 that I was waitlisted. I am sure this year we will find out around the same time. I would apply for the September 1 cohort too... better safe than sorry!

@Rdhlucas Aww okay. Thanks for the info!!

Does anyone know if they always interview their applicants? If so, when do those invites go out?

@JEasley

Hi there! If you're talking about the bachelor in nursing programs, they do not conduct interviews. I wish they did though!

@Rdhlucas The Sacramento ABSN program

@JEasley

No interviews for any bachelor nursing programs.

Only the higher education programs
