Hello!
I'm new to this site, but have been following the allnurses posts regarding Samuel Merritt program applications religiously for a while now. I recently applied to the ABSN and ELMSN - FNP program for the July 1 deadline. Thought it would be great to have a place to provide insight, stay updated and share experiences with all of you through this terrifying journey. I mean we ONLYYY have to wait until October - November to hear anything. Let the wait begin.....
Looking forward to hearing from you all :)
Boogalooga did you double check on your NursingCAS application that Sacramento was selected and it didn't accidentally select San Mateo as a second campus or primary campus? I selected Sacramento as both primary and secondary campus.
Well a few days ago when I was freaking out about not having heard back and possibly needing to apply other places, I started my 2018-2019 application on NursingCAS. So now I can't seem to access my old application in order to double check this, but I know I wouldn't have made that mistake. Kicking myself now for not choosing Sac as secondary campus as well though instead of leaving it blank.
However, in the SMU admitted students portal it clearly shows that I applied to Spring 2019 ABSN Sacramento and that my application was being reviewed. Then above that, it says I've been admitted to the SF Peninsula program.
I remember from some past forum that this has happened to someone else at some point. I wish I could find it now to see what happened with him/her!!!
So excited to have been accepted but really worried about this. I will even defer my acceptance to Fall 2019 if that's possible so that I can attend in Sac and not San Mateo
When you go to login to NursingCAS there is yellow writing on the left hand side of the area to put in your login information. The text has a link to open your 2018-2019 application. You should be able to access it that way.
Thanks, I know that there used to be and I accessed my old application several times in that way, but now that I had started my reapplication that option seems to have disappeared!
I went down a long rabbit hole in the new application and was able to download a PDF of my submitted app to SMU. It says "Sacramento or San Mateo". Since I absolutely didn't select a secondary campus, the only thing I can think of is that they assumed I was fine with San Mateo. Hopefully I will be able to contact someone tomorrow who can fix this somehow.
Thanks for your help/advice everyone!

Maybe not putting a second campus selection made them think that you were fine with Sacramento or San Mateo as a second campus. At least you were able to get the downloaded version of your application and you can hopefully get things sorted out. Let us know what they tell you in case someone else has this same issue in the future!
Hi everyone! I have been watching from the sidelines but wanted to contribute now that I've received an email from SMU for the Spring 2019 ABSN cohort. I was waitlisted and my position is not too low but also not high enough to justify moving from a different area of California to San Mateo if I miraculously were accepted a week before school. That being said, I'm applying for the Summer ABSN program. This was my first time applying to the ABSN program but to give you a brief background:
-I attended the Nursing Success! Seminar
-I graduated from Santa Clara in 2012 with a B.S. My overall GPA was fairly low due to dealing with some major health issues.
- I went back and retook every single Pre- Requisite including Patho/Pharm and finished 2 months ago after 6 Semesters of courses. My GPA for my last 60 units is around a 3.8 but considering my undergrad, it's closer to a 3.3-3.4 overall.
-I scored an 89 overall on the HESI. I did very well in every section besides A&P. I took it last because I felt it was my strongest but received a low 80.
-I have extensive volunteer experience from my undergrad and time thereafter. I organized a club traveling to Central America every spring break to provide medical and dental services to poverty stricken families every spring break.
-Since 2013/2014, I created my own business that is not healthcare related yet I've managed to run it full time while going back to school.
-I've tried to get part time jobs or volunteer as a scribe, MA, anything to be involved locally but it's been almost impossible to do without "prior experience".
-Note: I applied to other programs for the Fall and was denied or waitlisted to all four of them.
I hope that those of you that have been waitlisted or not heard back remain positive. It is NOT easy to get into Accelerated BSN programs or nursing school in general. Congrats again to those who were admitted. I hope to be in the Oakland Sim Lab this Summer :).
