Hi everyone! Just wanted to get the conversation started for those who applied for the ABSN Fall 2019 cohort. I applied for the Sacramento location but would love to connect with all who applied in general! Good luck everyone!

I completely understand time vs money! I could apply to other BSN programs, but by the time I applied, was accepted, and got through one of those, I could have literally applied 4-5 times AND completed SMU’s ABSN program. So I agree with you. I hope you get in here or end up moving to a location that also offers an ABSN program. And you never know, maybe if you’re planning to move out of state, the programs are easier to get into and less expensive? California is just so crazy when it comes to nursing school. Best of luck to you!!

Do you think there is a possibilty of the Fall cohort not happening? Do you know if Anne is one of the counselors or just an admin who is filling in? Also do you know if it possible for them to roll over our reference letters? The academic ones I sent were extremely strong and would be a copy/paste job. I have zero plans to change my letters, but now risk not having any academic references given how SMU is handling their timing and half answers of the cohort. College professors don't usually hang out during summer break. Basically their delays may cause me to not be able to apply in July. Somehow this doesn't seem right.
Yah unfortunately they do not roll over. They will get the decision out eventually the Fall cohort will happen. I think it's just an odd time where they have another application due so quickly since we applied in April for a November spot and the next round is a July app for a Jan spot. They will have the decisions eventually. The Jan start they didn't tell us if we were accepted or not until October so much closer to the start time then this one will be. Its a SUPER frustrating process but I have a feeling they will get it out to us before the next one is due. But I would get everything ready for the next round regardless so you can just turn it in as soon as you hear or before the deadline if we do not.
Having gone through this before, I try to let my references know that applying 2-4 times could be a possibility. I ask them to please keep a copy of the letter handy (because it can be the same exact letter). I keep in frequent contact with them and thank them for their patience. I know you may not be able to get in contact with your professors this time, but see if they will give you a personal email address in case something like this happens again. If you can’t get the same references, try to find some new ones for the July application and then if you have to go for round 3, have the academic ones sent again.

Also, according to one of my references, there is box to check so that the reference can be used on other applications (that use NursingCAS of course). Then, when I put her email in for the new application, I immediately got a notice from NursingCAS that my reference was received.

That’s really great to hear! I’m going to tell my references to check that box!
I've tried to keep myself from getting on here and reading through everything because I felt like it would drive me crazy, but this is taking forever! This is my first time applying and I thought we'd know pretty quick. I thought wrong. haha. I just started my next application for July, but I'm so unmotivated to finish it now because I keep thinking "i'll for sure hear back by tomorrow." I am so ready to put my 2 weeks in at work and switch gears if I get in, so the suspense is killer. Does anybody know how many people applied and how many they can take?

Are you referring to the status update on the new application?

I don’t think so. This is something on the page that your references access. I had a professor give me a reference at the end of the semester and she told me that she checked the option for me to use the letter for future programs.
