Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 Admissions - San Francisco, Oakland, San Mateo

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to Samuel Merritt's Accelerated BSN programs in San Francisco, Oakland, or San Mateo for 2010 entry.

This is my second application for admission. San Mateo had a July 1 and Nov 1 deadline, I applied to both. I received a letter the first week in November (in regards to the July 1 deadline) that I was number 48 of 50 waitlisted. This was the first I heard from them regarding that application!! So I am pretty sure I will not be offered admission to that program. Does it seem like a long time that it takes approx 3 1/2 to 4 months to hear anything regarding admission?

I don't know if being waitlisted once will help my chances of getting into any of their other programs or not. I emailed them shortly after the November 1st deadline to find out how long before we will hear anything. And they said they will not be sending out admission offers until at least mid-February!!

I would love to hear from anyone else that has experience with Samuel Merritt's admission process especially from those that were accepted recently. Does anyone know how many applications they receive?

Sorry Rose. Maybe that's good news! She emailed me back quickly today - within 30 mins. Maybe its timing.

She just replied to me. I am #13 on the waiting list. So, at least that is something! But she said I probably won't know anything more than that until the end of July.

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!

Best of luck!

Ahhh- you all know- there goes my last comforting thought that at least I had company in the waiting!!!

I have emailed twice this week and called a few times and still nothing! I have to negotiate my work contract this week- I've already delayed it twice... I don't know what else to do! :(

Andy,

Did you email EB, the counselor for our cohort? I emailed her twice to get an answer, so don't give up. The waiting is so hard, and even with an answer, still more waiting...Don't give up hope. i'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Holy moly... #49.

Well, in all the times I've applied, this was a first for actually making a wait list. So I'll take it as a win. I was definitely discouraged at how long this process has taken me, but there's still that glimmer that keeps telling me that we should all continue and never stop trying.

I've been emailing the same counselor as everyone else, and she said there was no way to bypass the NursingCAS. But make sure you get your information into the system as soon as possible!

Unlucky for us, there was only one cohort this time around. Who knows what will happen the next time when there are more spots open? *fingers crossed*

Again, good luck to everyone continuing on their journey!

Thanks Rose- yes I emailed EB. Twice, then emailed LM who is also listed online as being a counselor for our cohort. She then forwarded to EB. I feel like I'm being punished for asking. :(

I can't even put my phone down- keep hoping for an email.

To be fair, before I even applied, I read online their admissions process was horrible and disorganized, but the school had such good reviews, I figured I could deal with the admissions process. Clearly I overestimated my calm nature. :)

hello, just a fyi for everyone. i emailed and received one back saying i am on the wait list. this is my third time on the waitlist, 2 times for absn and once for elmsn. i am not really sure why i am waitlisted again, as i heard (from a school official) that once you make the waitlist you are normally very likely to be accepted the next semester. hmmmmm..... disappointing. i will not be applying again. :(

Hello Rose,

What u think about our chances of getting in . You are 13 and I am 12

Hmm, I wish I knew. The counselor said that the chances were "pretty good", but I just have no idea how many folks might turn down their acceptance. Anyone know any stats on the waiting list situation?

#31 on waitlist. Seriously- what on earth are they looking for??? I have pretty decent stats!!! Auugghh.

Time to figure out a new life plan. Fail.

Andy, I've been going through a depression since Mon...I totally know how you feel.

I wish my quarter-life crisis came earlier rather than later. Go figure it happens during the recession.

In any case, keep your head up. Easier said than done but when )(*)* hits the fan, remember:

"Everything happens for a reason."

I didn't mention why I was going into nursing. Finished my BA in a non-science field never ever thinking I'd go back. My son had a liver transplant at 17 mos and in an instance, I wanted to be a nurse just like those who took good care of him. So instead of his diagnosis being a condemnation, it was "everything happens for a reason" and that mantra has taken through his many hospital stays thereafter; monthly blood draws; etc.

Guess life experience doesn't count for much when you try to go into nursing for those reasons. So who knows what they're looking for.

Good luck!

Hi all,

I'm #55 on the waiting list even with good stats. I've heard from a couple of previous SMU students that it is a first come, first serve basis. For those who got on the waiting list, when did you turn in your application? I turned mine in just before the deadline (maybe 1 or 2 days).
