This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to Samuel Merritt's Accelerated BSN programs in San Francisco, Oakland, or San Mateo for 2010 entry.
This is my second application for admission. San Mateo had a July 1 and Nov 1 deadline, I applied to both. I received a letter the first week in November (in regards to the July 1 deadline) that I was number 48 of 50 waitlisted. This was the first I heard from them regarding that application!! So I am pretty sure I will not be offered admission to that program. Does it seem like a long time that it takes approx 3 1/2 to 4 months to hear anything regarding admission?
I don't know if being waitlisted once will help my chances of getting into any of their other programs or not. I emailed them shortly after the November 1st deadline to find out how long before we will hear anything. And they said they will not be sending out admission offers until at least mid-February!!
I would love to hear from anyone else that has experience with Samuel Merritt's admission process especially from those that were accepted recently. Does anyone know how many applications they receive?
Hey all,
For those of you were accepted to the program, do you mind sharing some of your stats with me? Previous degree GPA, prereq GPA, healthcare experience, and other programs you applied to and were accepted to.
Also, can someone explain how it works when you apply to the various locations? For example if I rank Oakland as my number 1, and SF as 2, what are the chances I will get into SF? Do they give priority to those who put SF as their number 1?
Thanks in advance!!!!!!
Good evening,
I'm definitely in the same boat as you recent posters. This is the 4th time I've applied to SMU. I'm basically asking myself - when is enough, enough?
Anyways - Does anyone know if we can forward our applications without having to fill out the NursingCAS? I started doing it last week and realized that my information may not reach the admissions office in time for the July 1 deadline for the Spring 2011 cohorts.
Good luck to everyone!
I know exactly how you feel. I don't understand why they wouldn't just email everyone on the accepted list, wait list and denials on the same day. It would be less time consuming for them and a much more equitable process. *Sigh*
Also, I am having the same dilemna about applying for the July 1 deadline. I was told merely weeks ago that I would not have to send an entire application if I were to reapply, because they would hold on to my transcripts, letters of recc, etc. But now, it seems that it is all done through CASNursing and I've read that the transcript process takes no less than 5-6 weeks. I'm curious if anyone knows if that is really true, because I have to say it's hard to stomach the idea of paying all that money again to get my transcripts and test scores (and app fee) if none of it will even reach the school in time. Anyone know for sure?
Trying to stay positive....and keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!
Best of luck to everyone.
rose80,
i was also disappointed to learn of the new NursingCAS system, but unfortunately, it's the only way to apply from now on (nothing from the previous application can get transferred over). The parts of the application that take the longest are the transcripts and references. Those are the ones that are out of our hands, so I'd suggest getting them out of the way first, especially since the July 1 deadline is coming up. Everything else can be completed within a day or two. If you do have any questions about the application process, call NursingCAS directly as SMU doesn't know much about the details. I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst in case I don't get in for Fall 2010. In the end, using NursingCAS is supposed to make it easier to apply to nursing school since we can apply to multiple schools all from one place and pay lower fees.
Thank you for all of the info! May I ask if you have already done the transcript requests, and if so, how long did it take for them to receive them? My reference letter writers have been extremely cooperative (thank god!) and are sending theirs electronically this week, but I am concerned that my transcripts won't reach them in time. Worth a shot, I suppose?
I'm with you on preparing for the worst but hoping for the best! I take it you haven't heard anything either?
I submitted the paperwork for the official transcripts yesterday at 3 schools. Each one varies with the processing time (1-2 weeks), but should all get there before the deadline (I hope ). No, I haven't heard anything either. I visited a counselor at SMU last Friday and was told that they would try to call everyone, but if they don't have the time to do so, they would send out an email and the official letters via mail.
Did anyone get a email back or call back when you called admissions multiple times??
I swear they purposely make you feel like *&*^ when an update email can clear everyone's mind...Then again, since we're the ones on this forum, its a bad thing to be in the know...as in, know that they made calls already!
Ignorance is definitely bliss...

Hi Everyone!
I haven't heard nadda from the nursing dept. I tried calling, but couldn't reach a live person. I left a message, so hopefully I will be able to find out the status of my app soon so I can stop thinking about it.
Please post if someone hears anything. Thanks!
Congrats to those who got in and Good Luck to those who are waiting.
