Are there any nurses involved in sales? My good friend who I used to work with has offered me a dynamite job, no oncall, no weekends, no holidays as a Sales Rep. Wondered if anyone has ever done this? It is a salary, good ammount, plus commission. Would love to know some of the pros and cons as well as tips on any books I could read since I have no sales experience....

Congrats on the job, Renerian!! Sorry it's been a while since I've been back. I don't think my hubby read any books. I know the company had some material, but I don't think any real books. Just went out with an experienced rep and saw how it was done. He's been doing it for about 3 years. He was with another competitor in town, and the company he is with now called him from out of the blue and absolutely begged him to switch to their company. Needless to say, that really opens the door for negotiating!!! :) Is the company you're starting with pharm or medical supplies, or what? Best wishes. HOpe this goes well for you.
Christian it is DME. It looks like I will be starting on 11/4. I am going out with a very experienced rep for a week, learning the paperwork and such. Then spend a week at the company who hired me in Minnesota.......I am excited. I will be working out of a home office which I already have set up. Good schedule. Holidays off which at my age and with five kids I really did want to be with them on Holidays.
Thanks for replying Christian.....

Any cold calling experience is good experience, especially if you managed to make a living somehow. If you can sell coldcalling, you've got the goods.......period.
Adapting to the new climate of customer needs and wants is all you gotta do.
Plug it in.
I did a quick search of medical sales and pharm on salary.com. 50 grand base median??
Holy crap!
I've been the top salesperson everywhere I worked and I never made that kind of lettuce.
.......................uhmmm...........the difference between wiping someones butt and kissing it seems to be about 20 grand base:chuckle
50k really isn't all that much.

Thanks,
Yea I'd like to know what you end up wringing out of them.
If my grades drop,as I suspect all this psychology crap is going to facilitate, then getting to the masters level where you can make a living, will not be a possibillity for me.
From what I saw from my short search,an associates degree and a track record to compensate for the lack of a higher degree would get my foot in almost anywhere.
Now it's back to the salt mines for me!!
Remember, this is your time of greatest leverage.....get what you want.
Close 'em.
