Salem Community College Nursing Program!

Published

The smallest school from the smallest county in all of NJ is now represented on allnurses, thank you, thank you...

As we go into our next semester at SCC

(23 mandatory credit hours! AAAaaagghhhh!) I hope many of you will find your way to this forum and post your comments about what you think of the classes, the new clinicals, the world in general... I recommend making screen names that won't give away your identity, so you can be more frank, I know I will be.

I hope to see EVERYONE next semester! Go SCC RN class of 09!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cumberland doesn't require an exit exam? interesting..

Specializes in Neonatal ICU (Cardiothoracic).
I'm sorry, I was so busy ranting that I didn't answer your question!

The only ADN program I know of that doesn't require a "Do or Die" exit exam, is Del Tech in Georgetown, DE. NY nursing schools, do not require a HESI, but they do require a very, very high score on the NCLEX to get your license. (2nd only to California)

Wait a sec..... do you mean you need a high NCLEX pretest to graduate? Because the NCLEX is the same test, no matter where you take it. And you can't take it until you complete all coursework. I took it in NJ, and got licenses in NY, NJ and SC. All each state requires is that you pass the NCLEX, and some, like NY, require additional ceu's in child abuse and infection control in order to get a license...

NCLEX is pass/fail. There are no scores assigned. You can pass with 265 questions or 75.... you can also fail at 265 or 75.

Maybe I'm just confused...

Can anyone tell me more about the Cumberland County Program? Does it require HESI as well?

No HESI at Cumberland!

Can anyone tell me more about the Cumberland County Program? Does it require HESI as well?

The last time I checked, about 9 months ago, CCC required the NLN as an entrance exam. But I don't recall seeing anything about the HESI as an exit exam.

Just graduated from Cumberland, there is no HESI exit exam. But, there was talk that there may be a requried ATI grade that you need to reach at the end of the 2nd year. Call the college, and they'll be happy to help you.

Does anyone know when does the classes start for the R.N. program ? I tried to call the school, but they are on spring break.

Congrats to all you successful HESI grads. How would you advise my

daughter who could not pass the HESI? Is all her work and effort for nothing?

She said she has to start over and now has an "f" on her transcript. She is

devastated and is giving up. She was meant to be a nurse and did so well in

clinicals and all other course work. I feel SCC has let her down. She will

continue working as a CNA but is getting burned out. Does anyone have any

ideas? She is in late 20's and needs to work full time for health benefits while

attending a program. I don't have any answers for her but don't want to see her give up. Any

suggestions would be appreciated.

Your daughter needs to call Cumberland County College's nursing department ASAP and tell them her story. This is why people need to look at the program to which they are applying. If HESI is required, my advice is to apply elsewhere.

Best wishes to your daughter. Please encourage her not to give up.

Thank you. We will take your advice and do that Monday.

I hope they still don't require the HESI and I hope she

doesn't have to start over.

Is this the exit HESI you are talking about, and is it for her RN or LPN?

Will they let her take it again? If she can take it again, that would be her best bet, because she has done all the coursework already. Otherwise, the advice to call CCC is good; at least see what they can do for her. To see that coursework go down the drain because of one exam would be such a shame. (understatement there!)

AW

Yes, exit HESI for LPN program. She can't take it again.

Took it 3 times. At SCC you have to start coursework over

again and even that has a wait period and is complicated.

Her best hope at this point seems to be CCC. Thank you both

for your responses and I will let you know what happens.
