Christiana Care Internships for new Grads

Sorry to hear that you didn't get the internship. I am a Christiana employee and I was hired and I did not have ANY nursing experience, just clinicals from nursing school. I do know they hire from within a lot but that is not always the case. Right now there is a hiring freeze....no overtime...so far no layoffs. I know how hard it is for a new grad to get a job, let alone the economy and cutting back on hiring. Best wishes to both.
  2. In Southern NJ...Cooper or Lourdes. I tend to lean toward the teaching hospitals. I live in Jersey and work at Christiana in DE (in top 100 hospitals to work at in US per Nursing mag 2009). Hope this helps.

Christiana Care Internships for new Grads

I was a May 09 graduate from NJ and searched the Christiana website and applied for RN positions that specified graduate nurses encouraged to apply. This time of year, there aren't many postings...keep checking the website. I did not prev. work at Christiana nor was I a nursing student related to the hospital. I've been with Christiana since Sept 08 and am very happy. *Nursing magazine listed Christiana Care in the top 100 places nurses want to work! Best wishes in your search.

    Studying for NCLEX

When taking the Kaplan questions, first figure out what the question is asking....MOST IMPORTANT!!!!!! Then start eliminating from there.... I am not a very good test taker, but I passed with 75 questions on the first try. While testing, I felt confident and when I was done, I knew I passed. (Never felt that confident in nursing school!) I only used Kaplan qtrainers and trainers 1-7. I researched why I answered questions wrong and took notes. I did 50-75 questions a day. I completed 95% of the qbank questions. Good luck to you in your studies! You can do it!

Those who failed on Kaplan are scaring many!

Completion of the Kaplan course was a requirement that needed to be met in order for you to graduate at my nursing school. I am grateful that this course was required because it was the reason I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. I am an average student and when I took the NCLEX, I walked out knowing I passed. Can you believe that? While I was taking the test, I knew I was doing well and I even knew the computer was going to shut off at 75! I was fully prepared and I felt confident! Kaplan questions were very very close to the NCLEX style questions. I was a B-C+ student during nursing school and Kaplan was all I did to pass the NCLEX. I did 95% of the qbank questions and trainers 1-7. When I got a question wrong, I researched and found out why I missed the question. I also took notes on subjects that I was weak in. Thats all I did!! KAPLAN was what I needed to pass the NCLEX the first time.

Slackers guide to passing the NCLEX

I agree that Kaplan was the reason why I passed (along with my strong desire to pass) the NCLEX RN. I would do the Qbank questions and sometimes 25 at a time because I felt 50-100 at a time would burn me out. Once the test was complete, I'd go over each question and answer and figure out why I answered it wrong and find out why it was right. While I was taking the NCLEX, I felt like I was at home doing my normal daily testing. The Kaplan questions were short and not wordy, they are very similar to the NCLEX exam. I was a B-C plus student in nursing school and when I left the exam, I knew I passed and I felt the test was not hard at all....... I never felt this way while testing in nursing school! I passed the exam with 75 ques. My ATI predictor in school said I had a 50% chance of passing. Kaplan course completion was a requirement in order to graduate.....its pricey but worth it. Hope this helps.

Meow, I completed 95% of the qbank overall is 60. Kaplan's pretest scored 61....readiness 62. I refused to believe any readiness tests that are going to tell me I'm going to fail. I must say, even if I only did 25 qbank questions at a time, I would always look up and understand why I got the answer wrong. I made a list of things that I was rusty on. I actually enjoyed learning this way. I did not study any meds. I knew the endings lol, pril, ose etc. On the test, you can easily figure out what the med answer is by knowing what the med is. Passing this test requires a desire to go over the material (I only used Kaplan) and answering what they ask. Here are my scores. 1) 65 2) 56 3) 59 4)51 5)55 6) 61 7) 60 When I was taking the test, I was actually glad to get SATA's because I could feel the level of questions going up (a good sign I guess) started getting them on the 3rd question. Hope this helps, let me know if I can assist you with any else (no, I won't take the test for ya!) I've had all the stress I can handle for this month.

Well, got home from taking the NCLEX RN. Shut off at 75 and would you believe 13 SATA's!!!!! At one point, I had SATA back to back! Two math problems (one mg/kg/min and one units) and tons of meds. The meds are ones that I saw in my Kaplan questions and it was always down to two answers. All I can say is if you have Kaplan, do the qbank questions, trainers etc. and you should do fine on the exam..as long as you know what is being asked and why you answered it wrong. Sad to say, but I learned more from Kaplan and researching what I answered wrong than I feel I learned in nursing school (so much busy work.) I will be able to get results on Sunday? hopefully. Right now, I don't know how I feel about the test, just can't wait for the results.

    Salem Community College Nursing Program!

Just graduated from Cumberland, there is no HESI exit exam. But, there was talk that there may be a requried ATI grade that you need to reach at the end of the 2nd year. Call the college, and they'll be happy to help you.

Thanks adema12! I'm going to concentrate on taking my time reading the question and keeping in the back of my mind patient safety. I am a rollercoaster of emotions, one minute I'm fine and confident I'm going to pass and then I flip to the other side. Oh well, back to Kaplan.

    NCLEX Drug Calculations

Tracy628, my girlfriend rec'd 4 math calc with same type of ques except the numbers were different. She made a mistake and calculated for hours not minutes on one and then the computer gave her three more to see if she was competent. She passed last week with 75 questions. Hope this helps. I take my test 8-8-08 and need to work on calculations (haven't done one in ages.)

Its interesting that I too am taking my exam 8-8-08 at 8:00am!! I too am scared to death. A close friend of mine rec'd her pass results yesterday. She said the exam was "easy"!! No brainer!!! What???? :uhoh21: For some reason, hearing those words puts more pressure on me! Fear of failure I guess. She did Kaplan and scored in the 50's and 60's on the q trainers. We'll see!

    NCLEX Drug Calculations

I am math challanged and am a little worried about the type of calculations that are asked on the exam. I passed the dose/calc testing that was required within my nursing program, but am rusty. Can anyone tell me the type of dosage questions I should expect on the exam? Any suggestions on websites or books to investigate? I'm testing Aug 8th and I need to address this weak area. Thanks.
