For all AL nurses, how much do you make? Could you live and buy a house with your salary alone without assistant from your spouses? I'm planing to move there but at the same time after I become a nurse, my husband will be going back to school full time, and I'm going to be a solely source of income. Any helps greatly appreciated

Hospitals in Mobile range from $17.xx to $19.xx for day shift. Night shift diffs vary from $1.00/hr to $2.xx/hr. With the cost of living in Mobile, you could work night shift and do 4 12s per week and decently support a family. Not much in the way of frills, but if your husband is going to school, then you won't be *expecting* to live high anyway. Live like broke college students and you'll be fine.
Are these ranges based on for what kind of nurses, do you know? I'm trying to get into an RN program and will be an RN as you see in a near future. From my old perspective, I thought I would make more than that.

Hi,
You really need to consider that certain areas in the country pay well and others just don't. I was working in AL in around year 2000. I was making $14 as an RN and they offered me $15 to go full-time. We left shortly after that and moved to El Paso, TX and I immediately made $19.50 an hour (I was severely underpaid for the area but didn't know it since we had just moved from AL). I left that job about 1.5 years later and started at $25 with the world's best boss and working conditions. Friends were making close to $40 an hour, but I didn't want those kinds of jobs. Then we moved to AZ and I was making $31.50 per diem. The col is low in AL, but seems to be going up. Just be sure you research wages and COL. I do miss AL, but not the wages.
12breakfree..the rate I was quoted was for a new grad RN. I don't know what part of the state you are in but some people choose to commute or travel nurse to bigger areas like Atlanta (if you are on the eastern side of AL)

new grad pay around the birmingham area is from about 19.20-19.56
Approximately, how long does a new grad expect a pay raise? I've read many posts mentioned about new grad versus senior pay, but there was never a clear cut to how long one needs to wait.
I'm not sure about what actually takes place, cause I am still a student. However, almost everyone who has came to talk to us from the hospitals told us that, our performance waslooked at every year and our pay raise was based on that.

I believe my area starts new grad RN's at $20-22/hr for fulltime on a med surg floor. I am topped out at my grad after 18 years in the system, a BSN, & Board cert in my area of expertise. NOT even $30/hr base rate. But I stay not because of the money but because I like my boss & co-workers alot & really like my job.
