Hey everyone I need your advice. My SNF is under new management and has decided to pay new hire's $4 more per hour but has be stringing the old staff along and has not raised our salary. This has been going on for 4 months! What do I do? It is one thing to work at a lower pay facility. It is another thing entirely to be underpaid out of what I can only interpret as disrespect. If they don't raise my salary soon, I feel compelled to leave. What would you guys do?

Leave. As soon as you can find another job. Even if it is for the same pay. Disrespect in the paycheck is one of the most horrendous forms of disrespect there is.

Are you certain they are paying new hires (LPNs) for $4 more? That doesn't sound correct. There may be something you are not aware of in this situation.
This is straight from the top. Plus the DON actually promised to bring us up to area pay when they took over, and then again recently when all the nurses started quitting!

I'd say take it up the chain or if you have a union - make some noise! I agree its not acceptable and the pay scale needs to shift... but I'm all about trying before quitting.

While I'm not quite sure about the details - $4/hr more than what?, what you started at or your present wage?, same benefits? - I have but one question.
Why are you still there? There's no better way to say, "we don't want you" than to hire a new staff member at a higher pay grade. At the very least, management is banking on the assumption that you're too complacent or too lazy to get another job.

I completely agree. I feel like with this information ( I found out for sure two days ago) I have no choice but to leave.

1)Ask for a letter of recommendation based on your years there,
2)give them the ultimatum and
3)brush up your resume....its up to them...remember- to replace you will cost them the 4$ more but make sure that there is no hidden catch like not getting some other benefit...
This is truly stupid on their part...there must be a catch.
