  1. I was always told it becomes a Medical Examiner Case in the OR... so as to avoid it even if it meant heading to PACU.
  2. 1.)what do you love about sn? weekends & summers!! 2.)what do you hate? it gets a little boring 3.)is subbing a good way to "break in" didnt have the opportunity to do so-- but i might not have taken the job if i knew!! 4.)with a sub job will there be any "orientation" to the different schools in the district? not sure our district hires "sub" nurses. 5.)how did you know sn was for you/how soon did you know? i had been in the or for a long time- relocated to tx and took a major paycut... i refused to bust my tail with that much experience and be paid less than i did as a new grad. i found an opening and applied bc all things considered - i needed to be home for my children. its nice- its easy- but it gets old really fast, and im in a really bad school where its not just lice and bloody noses.
  3. I think its one of those things that comes with the territory. Its not a glamourous position, but if you have your head on straight and can organize time and be prepared for events- you'll get to a feeling of control. One of the most beautiful things about Nursing is there are so many avenues to choose from- whether its because of burnout, complacency, family, relocation etc. Its one of the few careers where simple things like a thank you or a smile is so rewarding it carries you to the next level. Its hard- the shiftwork is the pits, and in the beginning its pure adrenaline that gets you through-- but in the end it is something I wouldnt trade. ever.
  4. a few times... back when passing instrument sharps weren't so safely handled.
  5. I wanna know why you aren't vaccinated, and wanting to enter a profession where we promote healthy living- and eradicating disease?!?!
  6. I think it takes a special kind of person to be in the OR... and you know if you belong there pretty quickly. Its an interesting arrangement of personalities and attitudes... but in the end you get in and get the job done. Not every workplace is a country club, and you'll find your niche.
  7. and dont forget to let Anesthesia know you are pregnant as well... in case during induction they need to use nitrous - you can step out. I was pregnant with my first- continued to do totals and would step out during cementing. I had a good rapport with the attendings and residents and they knew when i'd leave the room and it wasnt an issue.
  8. I've used SIS, Sunrise and Picis- lovede Picis the best!
  9. I'd say take it up the chain or if you have a union - make some noise! I agree its not acceptable and the pay scale needs to shift... but I'm all about trying before quitting.
