Good morning! Looking for some insight. I am interviewing for the DON or DNS position for a 197 bed facility and unsure of the salary expectation. I have 7 years experience and have 5 years experience in leadership: mostly in acute care. Any insight?
Thanks-
Chris

No expertise in this area ... but suspect you'll need to include something about the geographic area to get much of a response. The salaries in a rural location in the South are going to be very different from the salaries in a major city in California or the North East.
Sorry! Thought I posted that... this is for Massachusetts, around 40 mins from Boston.

No experience in long term care and you've applied to be the DON???? Get yourself to the psych section of allnurses!
I've been a DNS for10 years....started out making $78,000 on Cape Cod....moved...made 80K then 88K then 105, then 110, now close to $130,000. So much depends on the company and the location.
Hi... I'll type more when I am not in my phone... I have 11 years total in healthcare: 7 as a nurse. Of those 7 5 of them I worked LTC as a second job. And was offered 120,000

Wholly, he**! I have 9 years experience as a nurse. 8 in long term care, no including the many years I was a CNA before I went to nursing school. I am DON and started at $50,000. Good luck to you!!!

Wow, that is crazy! I hope you are making way more now as an experienced DON. I started at 50K as an RN in LTC with no experience! I think the OP's salary of 130K is much more realistic. I would have guessed 100K and up.

Interesting thread and hard to get a real answer.
I've been in LTC for 20 years and the opportunity comes up a few times every year or so to take a DNS position. I keep saying no due to family situations (hubby would need to go part time or switch to the SAHD) When I look at what I make and hour with the potential for OT here and there and then look at what was offered to me (before negotiating a salary) I continue to say no.
Getting back...all going to depend on size of facilty and location.
