How often does the CNO address nurses? Why? How?
Ah, I am sorry to read this post... as a CNO, I round all of my units (I have 3 sites) at least every 3 days, the ones where I have my office daily, the other two buildings I try to hit at least 2 times a week. I feel like it is essential that I see and know all of the staff I am responsible for and I have oversight for: nursing, pharmacy, lab, pharmacy, rehab services, dietary and housekeeping. And we are 250 beds total.

Need nurse leaders...
Hello All- I recently accepted a position as the Nurse Executive for a psych hospital and I am struggling to recruit nursing leaders (I need 2-3 nursing supervisors and a manager). I am curious what strategies have been used to recruit in the past. Thanks!

Nursing Supervisor salary
I was an RN for 1 year before I became the house supervisor for a hospital... I have since been in leadership roles for 6 years. I would expect you would make around 26-28/hr?

Considering traveling, again
Good Evening, everyone! I am a one time traveler here, I actually left my home in Iowa to come to the east coast where I was in a contract for 6 months, and then accepted a manager position here. Worked full time in hospital admission since (approx 20 months), in January of this year I accepted a job transfer and an Asst Manager position in the ER, the issue is that I am always working as staff on the night shift. Couple that with some financial trouble I have found myself in, (student loans), I am considering returning to travel nursing. As a travel nurse I seemed to make a great deal more and was able to put money away and get caught up on bills. When I started travel nursing I was in a similar situation. Just posting for some input. I enjoyed travel nursing, it wasn't a bad time. And I feel like maybe I should see more of the country and while doing so finish that MSN online live I've been planning to do. Input...

Nurse managers-Do you think tattoos look professional?
Yes! I expect them to be covered at all times regardless of their location and/or meaning. I also expect all piercings except for ears to be removed.

Career Advice
Hi Everyone-- I need some advice, and I didn't know where to place this so if I am in the wrong forum, please move it moderators. ;-) I recently accepted a travel contract, but since then have been offered two other jobs, 1 was teaching part time at a community college... 2 days a week, 10 hour days at $36.00/hr. The other one is to be the Program Coordinator for the Vocational Health programs (CNA, CMA, RT, etc...). I'm not sure of the pay but I was also told that if I need the money I could teach as an adjunct in the nursing program for 1,000 a credit hour and I would typically take on 3-6 credit hours per term. Isn't it just typical that you accept a job and then tons for show up.... I am currently working on my MSN and when finished would like to move into either education or administration. My concern with travel nursing is that it is not going to help my career or help me advance at all. With either of these other two positions I would at least be teaching, gaining some real experience. But with the program coordinator position I would not be teaching nursing core, I would teaching the assistant stuff so is that really going to help me advance in the field? Travel nursing has all of he appeals... decent pay and travel! I really would like to see the country. My concern is with advancing and what I would do when I am done, from what I have seen and heard it can be difficult to find a position after traveling, especially since you really can't interview until you are in the area you want a job. I am also kinda broke, I have read about the need to have savings, I was just planning on falling back on my credit card if necessary and then come home and work for the staffing agency, they will always give me a job if I want it or need it. I am also concerned about traveling alone, perhaps this is just fear trying to talk me out of traveling? So advice... what do you think I should do. I know it is ultimately my decision, but i am just curious what others would do. Is it true that travel nursing is not going to help me advance in my field? What type of ramifications will it have on my future?

Good Contract?
Yea, I am an RN, have been a nurse for four years with a variety of experiences including charging. And this assignment the nurse manager did tell me on the phone that I may charge at times. I did tell the recruiter I was in no hurry to leave my current job for $3 more an hour. I work at an awesome hospital, seriously, the best hospital in the area (our turn over rate for nurses is less than 3%)... I am hoping she will get back to me soon. Idaho isn't even my ideal area, if it was say, the D.C. area then I might consider taking a low offer just to get there for the summer. I really just wanted to travel to see other parts of the country and to get a little more money to put toward my loans (ugh!). I was recently offered a job teaching part time for a college in the area too, so to turn that down I need a good contract. I explained that all to my recruiter, so we will see what happens.

Good Contract?
Housing, 1 furnished bedroom is provided in addition. It just seems very low, especially considering I make 24 an hour at my hospital. Seems like a waste to drive 22 hours to make only 3 dollars more an hour. My recruiter is saying that because I am a first time traveler I am getting paid less and once I get my first contract under my belt I will get paid more. Ugh, such a pain.

Good Contract?
Hey everyone- I was just offered a contract in Idaho for a med-surg, peds/float position. It is a day shift and the manager said that I would only have 4 patients if I were working with tele and 5 if I wasn't. Sounds pretty good I think, but they are only offering me 16 an hour but my "blended rate" would be 27.43, that seems REALLY low to me? Any input?

Washington DC
What agencies are you guys working with? I am also with CCTC and they don't have ANYTHING in the D.C. area and that is where I really want to be.
