Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers School of Nursing - Queens

Anyone accepted for the Fall 2008 semester? I just got my acceptance letter!!! Yay!!! :) :yeah:

I'm not going to keep going back and forth with this trying to prove myself right...I know what I was told. You must obviously work for the school or something. I am not trying to put the school down, just passing along information that I leaned from the NY Nurses Association which I feel is better than advice from anyone on allnurses.com because on here we really dont know who is who. I will not be responding to this thread anymore my last words on this issue are this: I SERIOUSLY URGE ANYONE LOOKING TO ATTEND OR ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL TO CALL THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF NURSES, THE NEW YORK NURSES ASSOCIATIONS AND WHOEVER ELSE YOU COULD GET INFO FROM ABOUT THIS SCHOOL AND TELL THEM THAT THE SCHOOL IS NOT NLN CERTIFIED AND SEE WHAT THEY TELL YOU. It would be a shame to throw your money and time away!

Specializes in school RN, CNA Instructor, M/S.

Hey everyone! I graduated from from Catholic Medical Center in the class of 93! It is so nice to hear about my alma mater!! I just wanted to congratulate all of you and wish you all the best! When your done reach out to me and the rest of your CMC (SVCMC) sisters and brothers! Can't wait to see you all working in the great city of NY!!!

I love this school! You learn so much, and, for the most part, the faculty are helpful; they want to see you succeed. It's very easy to fall behind. One thing, if you don't have your **** together and aren't aggressive about studying, don't even think about applying or coming here. They try their best to give you this HUGE body of knowledge from which to draw when you start clinicals, so you're not just standing there staring at your patient with their IV bags. EVERYTHING you learn is practical, applicable down to those lab values. So make sure you're ready mentally and emotionally for this program; you won't be disappointed.

I just handed in my application today! I had a few problems with actually finding the school, my overall GPA is about a 2.3 so that has me worried but I have A's and B's for all the pre reqs that are required for the nursing program. I am hoping that I will be allowed to take the entrance exambi usually test well. I also felt that my essay was well written so let's iust keep our fingers crossed!

I am so glad i found this site, the website for the school is very barebones Nd offers very little information and this forum helped out greatly and answered many of my questions. Is the actual cAmpus for queens in that building? When I wen in to drop off my application I did not see any classrooms and the overall area seemed kind of small to me.

They said to expect a phone call within a week or two.

One question. What needed to be included with your application? One of the papers said you just need the completed application along with the money order and essay. When do they take your transcripts or degrees?

Also as far as your overall GPA goes if it is below a 2.5 is that an automatic no? Or do they still take into consideration your class scores in the pre reqs along with your entrance exam scor and interview?

Thanks

EVERYTHING is taken into consideration. They consider applicants who scored well on their entrance exam. You are then asked to come in for an interview.

hi, I guess I will be reconsidering this school. I have to see if the nln accreditation is really that important. I'm really disappointed because this is close to my house.

Supersage- in response to your concerns:

She told me that being they are certified by the New York Regents that means they are an accredited school in New YOrk, however the NLN is the national nursing league so if I ever wanted to work outside of New York, or be a travel nurse I probably would not be able to....

Not having NLN accreditation has no bearing on your ability to practice outside of NY. You have to apply for reciprocity, whether the school you graduated from is NLN or not. Once you have your RN license, they do not look at your school to determine whether or not you can get a license elsewhere.

As I had posted a few pages back (and nothing has changed), NLN is an 'extra added bonus'. Your main concern is that the school you choose will qualify you to sit for NCLEX, and obtain a license.

Hi everyone,

I have taken the two exams and am waiting to hear back for the interview. How did you all find the interview? Are there many accepted in the Fall 2010 program? How are the current students class schedules (for the evening classes). Does anyone know where St. Paul's clinicals are? Thanks so much!

Hi have question, i took the exam on april 16 and did good on it (94 on math, 85 on reading comp, 82 on grammar and 78 on voc) my question is how long it takes them to schedule interview? will they call, or send a letter? very anxious!! thanks in advance.......

hi, just wondering if you heard anything from the school?
