Saint Joseph College Brooklyn Spring 2018

Published

Good Morning everyone,

I am so excited that I finally got into Nursing school. I got an email this morning from SJC advising me that I got accepted to the nursing program for spring semester. I originally applied for Fall'18 because I was told by the admissions that they only accept Fall admission. But low and behold a few weeks later I got an email from them stating that a few spots opened up and if I would like my application put in for Spring '18. That was a no brainer, so I dutifully accepted and the wait almost killed me lol. Finally got an email this morning and I began screaming. Finally guys, it's been a long grueling journey that I thought would never end. I have all As and a couple of Bs in my prerequisites but my overall GPA is 2.9 which is pretty low and I had almost given up on getting into any program. I also got accepted into a weekend program in Dominican College but the transportation was a little to much to go upstate and I had a few more prerequisites that they needed me to complete. Please if anyone got accepted or is an alumni I would love to hear your thoughts on the program and any feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

@rena87 Hi I took it at St Joseph I took it online. You probably going to have to take it at the school.

HI,

I'm trying to get into SJC in the spring 2020. My term gpa is 3.33, my Cum gpg is 3.085. I applied and they sent me a letter last week saying that " Dear Neph,

Thank you for your interest in St. Joseph’s College (SJC Brooklyn)! In the next few weeks, you will be receiving some information outlining academic and student life at SJC Brooklyn.

In the meantime, I encourage you to explore our website for more information regarding transfer admissions and financial aid. Come in and meet with an admissions counselor who can review your transfer credits or take a tour of our campus.

If you have any questions regarding admissions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

We would love to meet with you in person! " So I'm a little scared, nervous of not getting accepted. What do you guys think? Please give me a little advices

@Nephoue that was just a generic letter they sent you, they don’t know how many seats there are for whatever class you qualify for until the end of each semester because some student appeal grades or drop out and all. From speaking to people in the school, spring admission is extremely rare and what ultimately happens you’ll then still be on the waitlist for the fall if you choose to still be on the waitlist at that point

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. Omg. Does it mean I have to wait until the end of the fall semester to know if I will be able to get in the spring? Everyday I was checking to see if they send me another email because I don't want to lose that semester. I don't apply in any private school, what do you think? I didn't apply in NYU because of the cost and all the requirements they asked me ( lots of letters and teas). Do you think I should go to visit them, look around, and meet with admissions, counselor?

I was in Bmcc and I took some nursing pre-requisites there. I love nursing so much. I can't wait to wear that uniform. Since I was a young kid I was like " I would be a great nurse to take care of babies ". And after I finish high school I said one day I will study hard to be a pediatric nurse. I know nursing is very very hard but I'm devoted to work hard until I accomplished my dream. Everytime I see someone with an uniform like nursing even though that person isn't a nurse I took my time to look at him/her going. Loll. I think that I'm too obsessed with that thing.?

@nephoue it’s funny you mentioned NYU because I applied to 5 schools and when I didn’t hear back from any until the end of August for LIU Brooklyn, I was contemplating my choices as well and thinking NYU despite the cost. Yes, you ultimately won’t know until the end of the semester which is annoying because I’m sure your just as anxious as I was to know where life was going to take you. When you say visit do you mean NYU or St Joseph’s?

" Come in and meet with an admissions counselor who can review your transfer credits or take a tour of our campus. " Do you think that I need to go to Sjc as they asked? I'll keep praying because I want to go there next semester. I have A for intro Psy, B+ for development Psy, B+ for Socio, B+ for Eng Comp 1, A for Math health science, B+ for Speech, B- for HED, B+ for general org Chem, A's for two Spanish classes and I have a F for A&P 1. Do you think that I may have a chance to go there?

@nephoue all my grades were A’s except for AP 1 which I got a B+, AP 2 which I got a B because my lab professor actually played with my grades and I watched him do it and micro I got a B+, I got out on the waiting list and didn’t get in. What did you get for AP2 if you were allowed to take it? Don’t take this personally but if you failed AP1 I don’t think you’ll have much of a shot only because most nursing schools do not accept a C (or maybe it’s a C+) or lower on AP 1 and will automatically not give your application another look...you don’t necessarily have to meet with sjc but it might be best to speak to someone, they have an online transfer evaluation system online but the AP1 would be the ultimate big concern in this case

@Nephoue how sjc does it is they consider both your cummulative gpa along with your science/math gpa weighing a larger portion but like I said what would be the biggest concern is the f in ap1. Not to discourage you but I literally heard back from LIU that I got right before this fall semester started and due to me working at a hospital they are allowing me to take classes online this semester and I’ll take classes there in the spring. I understand your place completely and wanting to get in but from a personal standpoint I had a hard time getting in with a 3.8 gpa, I think you may need to speak to someone considering my situation

@Nephoue this is something that’s on their website so like I said you should maybe speak to someone referring to the grades part

@Scoobyfn8 are u saying u didn't get into St Joseph with a 3.9 GPA? What exactly did they tell you? Why didn't you get accepted!!!! cause I honestly not trying to waste my time? I already submitted an application for spring 2020, My GPA is 3.4. However, I still need Speech. philosophy and Religion. speech and philosophy I am taking now and for the Religion that they are asking for can't seems to find it as no CUNY schools. So it looks like I will have to take it there smh. Do u know of any other schools in NYC area that's affordable? I got accepted in LIU for Spring 2018 ..Had to run so fast omg it was sooooooooooooooooo expensive ..

I called today, and the counselor told me that they received my application, the fee, and my unofficial transcript. It will take only week for them to start reviewing transcripts and they'll let me know. I asked them about that F for that A&P 1. He said that it's not a problem. I can take it in the school with the other pre-requisites classes left. IDK I'll continue to pray because I want to study in that college and I feel like that they'll accept me. By the way Sjc is the only private college that is least expensive and it has a great rate and reviews
