Saint Joseph College Brooklyn Spring 2018

Published

Good Morning everyone,

I am so excited that I finally got into Nursing school. I got an email this morning from SJC advising me that I got accepted to the nursing program for spring semester. I originally applied for Fall'18 because I was told by the admissions that they only accept Fall admission. But low and behold a few weeks later I got an email from them stating that a few spots opened up and if I would like my application put in for Spring '18. That was a no brainer, so I dutifully accepted and the wait almost killed me lol. Finally got an email this morning and I began screaming. Finally guys, it's been a long grueling journey that I thought would never end. I have all As and a couple of Bs in my prerequisites but my overall GPA is 2.9 which is pretty low and I had almost given up on getting into any program. I also got accepted into a weekend program in Dominican College but the transportation was a little to much to go upstate and I had a few more prerequisites that they needed me to complete. Please if anyone got accepted or is an alumni I would love to hear your thoughts on the program and any feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

For a full-time student, how many years will it take to finish nursing there? I have a friend that went there. She finished after 3 years. BTW she recommended me that school. She said it's a great college. ( Tutors to help with papers, kind workers and great professors and you'll feel home).

@Nephoue I hope we all get in sis..God is good. lets just continue to pray. Do u have religion already, if so where did u take it?. Also ddi u know that the higher your GPA the more scholarship money u get.. for example I was told that I will get 11,000 once I am accepted.

@Nephoue My friend just started there too. He said its really good. I already have a Bachelors so I will be going on as a second-year student. that's the only downfall its a bit longer for those of us that have a degree already

No I didn't take religion class yet and I think only Suny offer that class. Waw I didn't know that Rena. Thanks for that information. I don't know nothing about paying. Should I apply for financial aid and loan and have scholarship for the beginning of the semester/ once I get there? Or start with financial aid and scholarship first? Because financial aid covered everything for me when I was in Cuny

Hey, hun. If u already have a bachelor like me then u won't be eligible for Financial Aid again. you can get loans though. sub and unsub loans. The rest is scholarship money. The higher your GPA the more u will get and it's renewable every year, Once u maintain that GPA..Not bad huh lol.. email me privately if u have any more questions [email protected].. it will be so cool if we all get for spring 2020

Hi guys sorry for the delay I was working... Rena, I didn’t get in with my GPA in fact I’m still on the waitlist and last I spoke with the guy I’m sort of in limbo (and that was the end of July before I found out about LIU). Let me explain how sjc does their admission to nursing better so maybe you can understand. Like I said I was put on the waitlist even with my gpa how they do it is obviously ranking order but since I didn’t have chemistry, religion and I’m forgetting the last class they wanted (because it wasn’t required at Nassau) I qualified for the sophomore class and not the junior class. The sophomore class only had 6 seats open for the fall, so basically each grade has a certain amount of seats and the people that had better gpa’s got letters and accepted their seats into their program. Hopefully that helps. Yes sjc is the cheaper of the private schools but once you become a nurse you will be making back your money very quickly considering hospitals in the city starting out pay is 100-110k. I’ve only heard good things about sjc program and like you guys I had wanted to go there considering I had felt they took the time to explain everything to me as opposed to other schools I felt like I was pulling teeth but as the same time LIU offered me the opportunity and nobody else did and I want to become a nurse so to me rejecting them to maybe find out I won’t get accepted anywhere else, well to me that’s just a semester I wasted.

nephoue in response to how long the program is it ultimately depends on how many classes you got done, in your case you might be considered a freshman since you’ll have to retake anatomy 1 and you didn’t take ap2 or micro so you might have a good chance for getting into the spring

Hey! Does it matter what class they consider you for? For instance can you take classes in winter and in the summer to be up to date with your original college class?

@rena87 Hi I took it at St Joseph I took it online. You probably going to have to take it at the school.

Hi @louismimi! I wanted to ask you which classes did you have left when you got accepted into SJC? Does the transfer to freshman class have a higher change of spring admissions than sophomore and ect?

I don’t believe you can with them. I don’t remember seeing them offer nursing classes in the winter and summer unless your doing accelerated (if I’m remembering correctly)

Thank you for your response! But I meant the prerequisites like chem, genetics, and like the gen ed classes ? Do you also know if there is a chance that there are open seats for "fresh man " class for the spring?

As long as it’s offered, I don’t see why you would t be able to...I’m not sure if they have spots for the spring, from my understanding it’s very rare for a spot to open up for the spring. I also got into LIU so that’s another thing!
