Do you happen to be taking the Labs course on campus this semester?

No, I am not.

I got accepted, but I think only only had 77 points (or maybe 80) unless I did my calculation wrong. I have a BS and I work as a CNA for over 200 hours and have over 150 hours for hospital volunteer. I got 86% on TEAS. I have financial aid( I don’t recall if this is the one that gives you points for it) 4.0 science GPA and 9pts for the extra courses with straight As in all of them. If anything I think the TEAS really made me stand out since I got 87% on the science section. I’m not sure how the acceptance goes or why I didn’t get waitlisted when everyone one else seems like they performed better than me, but other than that good luck to everyone else!

Congrats!

May I ask a question? If not no worries, I know points can be a bit personal. I'm just trying to figure out how to make my app more appealing for next semester and I'm looking for any advantage I can get.

By any chance did you get points for Language? If so that would put you at 79. Either that or you took Pharmacology and 2 other extra courses which would put you at 79 as well. If you are right about the TEAS than I was 2 points short of the cutoff because I got a 91.3% on the TEAS and a 87.2% on science. I think if anything, it was more due to you having a 4.0 in Science GPA and your Bachelor of Science since they both show high academic aptitude along with hours already in the medical field (CNA = 350 = 5). I have an EMT License (no hours yet), an AA (I will have a BA after this semester) and a 3.38 (I got a C in Anatomy?‍♂️?).

Again congratulations,

Kenji

I know this wasn't directed at me but I was accepted and this was the first time I've applied to any nursing program. I have a 4.0 science GPA, a 3.5 overall GPA, 3 AA degrees, 91.2 on TEAS (only 75 in science tho b/c my whole section was Chemistry and I didn't study for that haha), about 400 hours of work experience as a medical assistant, I took all of the extra courses and got As in all but one class (pharm, lifecycles 1&2, psyc, communication, stats).

I don't think there was anything exceptional about my application. The only thing that might have set me apart was the fact that I took all the science pre-reqs at Saddleback.

I don't know if they look at any of this stuff since the application is online. I assume a bot just sifts through the applications now but this is all extra stuff I have done that would have only been visible if a person actually looked at my transcripts:

I have taken a ton of extra related courses (CPR, Advanced CPR, gerontology certificate, medical terminology, pathophysiology, case management, extra Chemistry classes, and nutrition. I also take passion classes at Coastline like drawing, extra math classes, emergency management classes along with community volunteer work (though I didn't put this on the application), and I have taken Spanish for 3 total years and Chinese for 1 year (didn't put it on the app b/c I was afraid they might ask me to speak with PTs and I'm not comfortable with that).

I hope it helps!

I think so far, your application is good. possibly earning yourself some EMT hours would maybe get you up there and make your app stand out as having patient care hours will def help out your app. I started working as an EMT earlier this year of April and within about 5.5 months I was able to get 1000+ hours. Now given, I did do A LOT of 10+ hr shifts and I work full time. Your TEAS is already fine, your GPA, it's fine as well. Just get those patient care hours. I feel like at any CC, they would rather much prefer someone who has some type of experience in the field. plus you paid good money to go to an EMT program and take the NREMT. you said so yourself, you're already licensed, now let's just get that license going.

I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for sharing @KateRan and @rowlab!! This helps quite a bit. I was leaning towards getting a job as an EMT, but I was afraid of taking on EMT and finishing my BA would kill me. I finished all additional courses that could grant me points for Saddleback, Cypress, or Golden West (my 1st choice and where I did my pre-reqs) and at this juncture it makes more sense to get EMT hours rather than retake Anatomy. I don't know if 3 months is enough to get 500 hours (February comes soon!), since I want to finish my BA before taking on another and new job, but it is worth a shot. Worst case, I should have enough time to make the April (tenative) deadline for GWC, and will have to accept I bump my points up to only 78 for Saddleback due to my BA.

Congrats to you both getting in, and thank you again for sharing!! Also, if anyone has any other tips, suggestions, or wish to share how they got in, please do.

No I didn’t put down that I have a language since the languages I know are considered too basic and I didn’t want to lie. I think you’re right about the bachelor’s degree though. Also, I had a lot of extra courses like nutrition and stuff but IDK if it adds points to this nursing program. I think if anything, you should try focusing on getting experiences since I know having a license is not enough for most programs. I think you’ll be able to get into the next one though with some experience and with your BA by then. Good luck and if you applied for other schools, I hope you get in !!

Thanks for the info and the well wishes @Kimberly Bui! Congrats again and good luck at Saddleback!

you'll get them next time! make sure you get MORE hours by work experience bc I think that is where you will max it out! your GPA and TEAS are good, let's try to work on maxing out other categories! and if you were proficient in a second language that could help as well! good luck and thank you! I believe in you!

does anyone here know how many students they accept into their program?
