Hello everyone!
I'm new to this website and I'm planning on applying for Spring 2016. I know we still have a couple months before the application opens but I'm anxious! I've been looking forward to applying and can't wait to get going. Anyone else applying for next spring?
Thanks!
Wait... so clinical's start the first semester!? This makes me nervous for some reason.Thank you, this is very helpful :).
SCC, ARC, and Sac State do essentially the same thing... they "front load" a lot of stuff so expect to be in class quite a bit for the first few weeks and not in the hospitals. The exact schedule does vary from program to program, so follow the advice from folks that have been through your particular program.
Yes, you'll begin doing clinical rotations during your first semester and you'll do them in some way, shape, or form in every semester until completion. You won't be thrown to the wolves and they won't let you near a patient until you've satisfied them that you won't be dangerous around a patient. Your clinical instructors should do a LOT of hand-holding and guidance at first and eventually you'll be ready for some slightly more independent practice.
Approach each day, unit, and experience as something to add to your repertoire and you'll do well.
Also, my advice for new students is to try to NOT make a decision right now about what kind of nurse you want to be and just try everything. You might find that you really do like a field of nursing that you never imagined that you would! Several of my classmates had that very thing happen to them... and they love what they do!
Hi Everyone,
I am new to allnurses and was recently accepted to CSUS Nursing for the Spring 2016 cohort. This may be a silly question but I currently have dark purple ombre hair (dark brown on top). Do you think I should dye it back to brown before I start school? I know we will be doing clinical rotations and I'm not sure if instructors/hospital staff will view my hair color as inappropriate or not. I usually get lots of compliments on it, surprisingly from older adults and I have shadowed at two hospitals and no one seemed to care but I don't want to start off on the wrong foot.
By the way, congrats to those of you who were accepted! I am excited to meet you all and start this crazy journey :)
Happy Thanksgiving and congratulations to everyone that got in!
I've finally gotten around to making the Facebook group that I said I would! The group name is called "CSUS Nursing Class of Fall 2017." Join the group and I will invite you!
The group isn't just for finding other nursing students to house with, but instead it will be used throughout the semester specifically for our nursing class. The group will be used for updates, asking questions or having concerns with anything. It's a great tool that we can utilize. The group will only be effective with what we put into it. So please join and spread the word to other nursing students who have recently gotten accepted!
I look forward to meeting all of you :)

Do you mind posting a direct link, I can't seem to find it when I search for the group in Facebook?
So if you search for the exact name it automatically searches in Top if you change it to search under More > Groups it should pop up.
Yes, I also had trouble looking for it to at first. But, after typing in exactly CSUS Nursing Class of Fall 2017" you do exactly what Cawa instructed, and then it'll pop up!

While I personally don't care much about a person's hair color, you'll find that nursing schools generally want their students to have a generally "uniform" look. That includes hair color. Keep the color to something that's basically a "natural" color and you won't have to worry about the staff riding you about that. Same thing goes for jewelry and tattoos. You'll want to have minimal ear piercings, no nose piercings visible while at clinical sites and cover any tattoos while at clinical sites. Colleges and Universities generally tend to be more open/inclusive of students but nursing school tends to be generally very conservative about appearance. You'll have plenty of opportunity to express yourself later.

If you didn't receive that email then you might have a problem. I don't know what email you provided on the application (csus.edu or not) but that's the one it should be sent to. I would email ---------------- tomorrow and explain the situation.
