Hello everyone!
I'm new to this website and I'm planning on applying for Spring 2016. I know we still have a couple months before the application opens but I'm anxious! I've been looking forward to applying and can't wait to get going. Anyone else applying for next spring?
Thanks!
Okay, thank you coolmommy99. I assume we will be increasing the number of clinical hours as the program progresses. I ask because a friend of mine was looking at a school out of state and commented that the students would "only have about 500 clinical hours" and inquired about sac state's number of clinical hours. I started to freak out a little because I never considered 500 hours to be low but maybe it is...

During our 2nd, 3rd & 4th semesters, we have two classes each that require clinical hours, so I'm assuming that's where we'll get closer to the 500+ hours.
Off the top of my head:fatrabbit, Keen Observer, or anyone, do you know or remember how much we will be paying above the tuition for uniforms, supplies, textbooks, etc? I thought I had seen it described somewhere but can't find it. Thanks so much!
Tuition and related fees are about $3,500/semester.
Textbooks are either $455 (e-book bundle), or $755 (e-books + hardcover textbook), depending on which you choose. My understanding is that the bundle, which you are required to purchase, is also used during second semester, so textbooks are relatively cheap.
Two pairs of scrubs (2 pants and 2 tops) and a lab coat is about $145. (You're only req'd to buy one pair of scrubs, but I highly recommend two or more because you'll wear them often).
Parking for the semester is about $160.
Required online materials for your courses run somewhere between $200-$300, but I cannot remember exactly.
Other supplies, such as a stethoscope, second hand watch, forceps, etc. will be about $60-$200, depending on what you have and don't have.
This is a pretty rough picture, but I hope it helps.

[i am new to this forum/thread I have no clue how it works. I am totally lost and helpless I feel like switching my major and I am a freshman just because of the competition! it seems frightening. are there any tips you can give me for example like specific teachers that were helpful, study methods for the TEAS, how many schools you applied to how many accepted you?
QUOTE=fatrabbit;8740423]Hi everyone. I just happened to stumble upon this thread. I'm 7 weeks into the Sac St nursing program. If you have any questions from a first semester student, feel free to ask.
Some advice:
-Start learning your medical terminology and abbreviations now! You'll feel a lot less lost in the first few weeks when they're throwing out those complicated medical terms =]
-Also, get acquainted with some of the common pain and respiratory medications (e.g. albuterol, opioids, NSAIDs...)
-Do NOT expect for the program to be easy, especially the testing (it's almost all based on clinical judgment). The concepts really aren't that difficult to grasp, it's just applying it which is challenging (like, choosing how much O2 to give a patient presenting with ___ symptoms).
-Get a computer- it's impossible to take written notes, the professors go too fast.
-Also, when asking questions, get used to the answer: "it depends" ( I can't even tell you how many times I've heard that=])
--Good luck everyone!
