Sacramento State Spring 2016 Application

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this website and I'm planning on applying for Spring 2016. I know we still have a couple months before the application opens but I'm anxious! I've been looking forward to applying and can't wait to get going. Anyone else applying for next spring?

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm sure everyone is plenty busy completing the Pre-Entry Checklist, but I have a quick question. How exactly do clinical's work as far as placement? Do we rotate hospitals each semester/year? Or do we stay at the same facility and go through the different floors (if so how often do we change units)? Also do we stay with the same people (our cohort) throughout nursing school or do these change as well? Thank you in advance :)!

Hi! You get assigned a clinical group, hospital, and unit to work on. You'll be on a med-surg floor taking care of one patient, once a week. You're last week in clinical will be 2 days, with 2 patients each day. You stay on that unit but get other experiences outside of your regular med-surg clinical. You're other experiences are: about 3 hours at a SNF, 1 day of peri-op (pre-op, OR, and PACU), and 1 day of home health. As for switching hospitals after your first semester, it depends on which hospital you start at; some people switch hospitals, others don't. You also get a new clinical group each semester. Second semester you get to do ER and ICU.

Hope that helped =]

[i am new to this forum/thread I have no clue how it works. I am totally lost and helpless I feel like switching my major and I am a freshman just because of the competition! it seems frightening. are there any tips you can give me for example like specific teachers that were helpful, study methods for the TEAS, how many schools you applied to how many accepted you?

I'll be honest, this program is really competitive to get into. You definitely want to get at least an 88% on your TEAS test and probably have a 3.7 in your prereq classes. Also, if you're worried about grades, do some volunteer work. CSUS offers a lot of non-academic points on their application. As for the TEAS, I bought the study booklet and went through that. I also liked to save all of my notes from all of my pre-req classes so I could refer back to them (I still refer back to them). I did my pre-reqs at another school, so Idk about teachers. If you're at CSUS now, try to get your upper division GE done before you apply otherwise you'll have to take them during summer.

Hope this helps =]

So to put this into perspective. A 3.7 would get you 30/50 points and a 88% on the TEAS would get you 27/50 points. This puts you at 57/100 points. The actual total is out of 112 counting the extra categories: for passing a bilingual test, volunteer/work experience in healthcare, having a disadvantaged background (high-school), and having a disadvantaged economic background (welfare). Each of these give you 3 extra points. This is all spelled out on the Nursing website. Go to Traditional BSN and then click on "Selection Criteria". The point cutoff was 76 points for the class of Fall 2015 and was likely 78 or 79 points for this application cycle (and has a history of increasing 1 or 2 points per cycle). This is all outline under "Application Pool Statistics." You wouldn't even be close with a 57 :/. Try and go for at least a 3.9, giving you 43/50 points. And 93% giving you 37/50 equaling a total of 80 points (keep in mind that this likely going to be the cutoff in this upcoming application cycle for Fall 2016). Also volunteer! (It's an easy extra 3 points). Hopefully this is helpful :).

Very helpful, Thankyou :p! I can't wait!!!

Hello all. Unfortunately, I may have to drop out of the Spring 2016 due to financial reasons. I am seriously heartbroken and feel even worse for wasting a spot for someone else but due to unforseen circumstances... Anyway, I am wondering if you think my points would be good enough to reapply again for the Fall 2016 cohort. My app score was an 83. Thanks for any input and good luck in school.

What a shame :(. Sorry to hear that! Your score is still pretty competitive for now so I don't think you need to worry about it! Good luck in next round of applications. One semester off isn't too bad. Use the time wisely to get your finances in order and to prepare as well. I'm sure everything will be okay in the end.

I'm sorry to hear that you won't be joining us this semester :/. However, I think you'll definitely get in next semester with 83 points. This semesters cut off was probably a 79 or even a 78 (of course this is speculation, but the point-cutoff history indicates an increase of 1 or 2 points per semester). And if anything there's always an alternate list. Best of luck with finances and the upcoming new year :)!

Thank you Honey Clover and Cawa. I need some words of encouragement right now. I'm hoping everything will work out in the end. Good luck to everyone!

I have also decided to decline my place in the program. After going back and forth and really contemplating the schedule plus adding in the commute, I have decided that this program is just not a good fit. I have no idea how I would get any study time in, let alone time with my kids! I will start a less accelerated program in the fall. I wish everyone the best of luck and I am very happy for whoever now has the chance to be in the program.

Well you made the right choice for you and your family; that's what matters the most. Good luck in your program too!

Well I am glad to know that you made the right decision and I wish you the best! Awesome that you have a back-up plan in place! Good luck!

Hi there. You mentioned that it's best to start on some of the material early. I'm starting this August and was wondering if there is anyway either from you or through the school get some pre study material.

Do do you think if I email some of the professors strictly for PowerPoints of the class material that I would be provided them? I'm leaving work soon and will have like two months of a whole lot of nothing lol. I would like to be somewhat productive. Thanks!!
