Hello future RNs!
I was wondering if you could help me out with a question. I've applied for the Spring 2012 semester. I was wondering what tuition costs for this program. I've done all my prerequisites at SAC but I read somewhere that it's regular tuition + $700 a semester. What have been the costs for this first semester for you guys? Thanks!
Hi Rainy Day! I did all my pre-reqs at SAC too...maybe we know each other?! A friend of mine just started UTHSC Fall 2011...she said it runs about $7000 (for the first semester). Tuition runs about $3000-$3300/semester, but you have to purchase a laptop from UT and books run about $2900. And that's if you choose the e-book version. Hardback books are more! Then there's your scrubs, stethescope, etc. SAC is a lot cheaper, just depends on what you want to do. I have taken all my pre-reqs for a BSN, so to me, it makes more sense to do 2 yrs and get my BSN, rather than 2 for ADN, especially being my goal is to eventually get my MSN! BUT, if you do SAC, there are quite a few schools that offer an online RN-BSN in one year. If I don't get into UTHSC, I will start SAC in Oct and once I've earned my RN, I'll do Texas Tech's online RN-BSN.
Yikes! chriscast1, I started freaking out until I re-read your post and saw you were talking about UTHSCSA. Lol. Phew. It's one of the reasons I decided to stick with SAC/Baptist because I don't qualify for financial aid anymore.
I have all my prerequisites for SAC but for UTHSCSA, I need Chem II, Stat and Art. I decided to go for the somewhat cheaper (I hope) route. I agree, the online RN-BSN route seems more doable for me, too, financial-wise.
I took my last prereqs during this summer - AP II and Micro.
Rainy Day, I am SO sorry. I have a post in a UTHSCSA thread too and didn't pay attention to where your post was from...sorry for the mild heart attack! SAC is regular tuition, approx 12 hours/semester +$700 + books. A friend of mine started in flex 1 and she said she found all het books online (Amazon, eBay, half price, etc) for about $350. SAC is the least expensive route and I continue to hear wonderful things about their staff, cirruculum, etc. If it wasn't for me wanting to get my masters, I'd be at SAC now. If I don't get into UTHSCSA, I'll start SAC in October. I'm sure you'll be great! Best of luck!!
I hope some of you experienced SAC nursing students can help me out...
I got accepted for the spring at SAC and it says I can only register for Flex II. Does this mean I will only get half financial aid because I'll only be taking 5 hours in the second part of the semester?
Should I register for Flex I courses outside of nursing school?
Confused!!!
What has you experience been as a Flex 2 student?
Also, are there nursing summer classes that are part of the program? Like MedSurg and Mental Health?
