I am currently a 4th semester student at Sac City College, I know that they get on average around 400 applicants per semester-34 get in...I'm not sure how many the Sutter Extended Campus get gut I am sure they get alot of applicants as well.

Good luck, and don't give up.

My advice is to apply everywhere you are willing to drive to, one of my classmates commutes in from Stockton everyday.

My cousin went through the Sutter campus. I heard chances of getting into that program were slim-to-none unless you or one of your close relatives (i.e. your mom) already work/works for the Sutter system.

Can you tell me how the selection process works. Is it based strictly on grades or is it done by completing the pre-reqs with c or better grades and then you are thrown into a lotto. Congrats on getting in and almost through the program. How do you like it. What is your schedule like? I have 4 kids and was hoping to do most of my schooling while they are in school. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm first semester at SCC. I got into both the part-time and the extended campus.

The full-time and part-time programs are both lottery based. You have to have a 'B' in all prereqs to be qualify for the lottery and the drawing is random. They are also going to start requiring the TEAS examination.

The extended campus has a lot of information on the selection process on the website (go to losrios.edu, click on SCC, then on nursing, then extended campus). The selection is based on grades, then 2 letters of recommendation. They said no preference is given to Sutter employees (I'm not employed at all and I got in). Work experience in the healthcare field is considered in the event of a tie if GPA & letters of rec put two candidates in the same position for acceptance. Extended campus requires the TEAS already.

I love the SCC programs. I feel like I am getting a great nursing educaiton.

Congrats on getting in the program!! Unfortunatly my pre-reqs are not all B's What is the difference in a part time and full time program. I did not know they had that. Thanks for responding!

Apply at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton. They accept based on grades of your prereq's and NOT by lottery! It's a good program with some great instructors!

Thanks for the advice. I was in that program 9 years ago when it was based on lottery. I stopped half way through when I had my daughter and now that I want to go back it is based on grades and I have c's in my science pre reqs and can not get back in. I was so sad to hear that. So now I have to find another school. I am not sure what I am going to do.

Thanks for the info on these schools I will check into them. Sometimes I wonder if I should pursue this. It can be frustrating. I live in Lodi and have four kids do I really have time to do this?????

The problem I think you're going to run into is the recency requirements. I believe for Sierra it's 7 years, which means you need to have taken your prereqs within 7 yrs. I know what you mean about how difficult it is! I live close to you... Galt... and am a mom of 4 kids also so I know EXACTLY what you mean! If you really want to be a nurse, just keep trying and you'll get there. Just stay determined and focused!
