Sac City or Modesto JC

Published

Hi, I am looking for a nursing program in the Sacramento or Modesto area. Has anyone been through either of these programs. (Sac City or Modesto JC) Does anyone know if there is a waiting list? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Another option is to become an LVN first and then do the LVN-RN. I'm also considering this. There are LVN programs through Delta, Yuba & Sac City that I'm looking into. The private programs (more $$) are HealthCare College of CA (in Stockton - brand new) and Xavier (also Stockton... heard mixed reviews on this). Delta is my first choice. I'm going to apply there in the fall for Spring admission. It's a lottery and my chances of getting picked aren't great (300 applications / 30 students chosen) but I'm going to try anyways. Their program is only Spring/Summer/Fall and then you're done. Prereqs are psychology, human development, med terminology & anatomy. Even with my C in anatomy I'm still okay (you need a 2.5 gpa for prereqs). Anyway.... just more options for you....

Thanks for all your very helpful advice. That may be my only option. I am just so impatient sometimes. I think I want to be an RN why go through the extra year to be a lvn??? But I guess you do what you got to do. Another thing holding me back from doing lvn is it does run through the summer. I do not have someone I trust to watch my 4 children while I am in school all day. If you do not get into the lvn at Delta what other option do you think you will choose?

I know what you mean about being impatient. That's ME!!! I want to be a nurse yesterday. lol. I'm *anxiously* awaiting the summer schedules to be posted for Sac City for summer because I'd like to take Bio 100-Intro to A&P (online). Sac City also has an LVN program, so if I get at least a B in Bio 100, I can apply there at the same time as Delta, since I have Human Dev, Nutrition & Medical Terminology already. So then I'll apply to those two LVN programs. If I don't get in then I'll keep taking my prereqs for the RN program. I just can't see paying $20K and more for the LVN program at private schools. I did find a job posting for an assisting living facility in Galt and they were hiring quite a few LVNs (new grads starting around $20). So that's not bad. I could work there or somewhere similar while waiting for a bridge program.

I agree that's it's hard since the LVN program runs through the summer and you'll need childcare. Some junior colleges have daycare there. Have you looked into that? I believe Cosumnes does; I'm not sure about any other programs. I have to deal with the day care issue whether I go to school or not, since I'm working full-time now. It's not easy! I've known my daycare provider for 8 years so I feel comfortable with her.

Well good luck I hope you get into the program that you want. Do you know what area you would want to work in when you graduate? I have always wanted to work in L/D and I hear lvns dont usually get to work there so I would have to do something that I may not like until I can do an rn program. Do you know if once you are an lvn you can do your RN online. That would be ideal with my family.

LoveToSpa,

I'm really not sure what field I want to get into. I'm hoping once I get in the program I'll have more of an idea. L/D sounds like a great area! I hope you can get there.

I believe Sonoma State (Rohnert Park/Santa Rosa area) is the only one that's in our area, and that's not very close. Good luck and let me know what you decide to do.
