Rutgers (formerly UMDNJ) ABSN Spring 2014

Published

New member here. Just got my acceptance letter in the mail today (Newark campus). Thought I'd start a thread to get the conversation flowing. Anybody else waiting?

Has anyone received financial aid information yet? I'm trying to decide if I should live on campus or drive from NYC? Anyone know how many days a week we will have class?

hello,

I was recently accepted into the Rutgers ABSN program- Newark for this coming Spring! I was wondering if anyone had any information about orientation? I looked on their website and it says that it is scheduled for December 5. Does anyone know what happens if you cannot make it that date? I will be out of the state and am a bit worried how it will effect me.

Thanks and congrats to everyone who got in!!

Hello abc18! I will be with you in Stratford in January. :) Our orientation day is Dec 2nd in Stratford and if you took the NALC class, we'll take the TEAS on Dec 3rd. I got that email from Newark inadvertently as well. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey @arem, congrats on your acceptance! Orientation is indeed on the 5th of Dec and is mandatory. I don't think they have another date scheduled. :( Call the school up and see if they would be willing to work with you!

Hi all,

I was accepted to the program last week- I mailed in my deposit today but I will not receive my welcome packet until they see that check! Any information on when the TEAS test needs to be completed? I did not even realize that we had to take this exam. I am still working so I am trying to take off as few days as possible!

hey emmoon- if you are going to Newark the TEAS dates are Nov 12 or 19 and orientation is Dec. 5. The Nalc dates are not confirmed yet. I spent most of the day yesterday driving around Newark trying to get my student ID only to find out they will not issue one until Jan and the parking pass which is not valid until Jan even tough the email said it would be valid for the teas test and orientation. I tried to call the school of nursing and apparently I was not the only one trying to get everything done and they do not understand why Rutgers is giving everyone a hard time. They told me they are not sure what to do yet and maybe call back in a few days or try to find meter parking on those dates. Also, you pay for the parking pass at the school building then have to go back across the street for the actual pass. If anyone has better luck or more info about what is going on please let me know.

Honestly I don't forsee much of an affect happening on the curriculum due to the merger. I graduated from Rutgers-Newark (the original) and am good friends with one of the Deans there, who happened to be in charge of the merger between Newark and UMDNJs School of Health Related Professions. She explained to me NO curriculums would be changing, at least not anytime soon because when a school changes that, the program needs to be Re-Accredited which is a can of worms I am sure they do not want to open right now. So basically, really all they did, as far as us attending the former UMDNJ nursing program was change the name. I even tried to speak to my old financial advisor, and she told me she could not help me because they still have their own office at UMDNJs campus. Its VERY confusing from a students standpoint. But, regardless Rutgers has a great reputation and our degrees won't say former UMDNJ. I can't wait to start! Look forward to meeting you all this Spring!

I had no idea we had to take an exam! It was not in my acceptance letter as a condition to my admission, but I called to find out the class schedule and they told me the same thing.. they won't give me any info without that check.

Hey Lauren89,

The TEAS is not an admission test, it is only to see where you stand. Your admission decision will not change. From what I was told it is only a tool to help you know what you need to work on.

Hi all,

I too just got accepted into the stratford spring 2014 program. I still haven't received any financial aid info or my A number to join portal. Hopefully it's not just me. I called the departments and they continue to say to wait for it in the mail.

Hello Laz19,

It took a little while for all my stuff to come, but don't sweat it, you'll get it. Can't wait to meet everyone, are you attending NALC next week?
