Rutgers ABSN Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey, decided to make a thread since I haven’t seen anyone make one yet. Thought it would be better than to just keep stretching out the 2019 thread. Drop a question below if you have any.

Hi everyone, I know most of you applied for the Spring. I didn't see a forum for the summer. I'm planning on applying for the summer. I am a Rutgers alumni and there is a separate form to fill out. Does anyone know what we have to complete? Just essay, resume, application fee, letters of rec.? I'm only asking because I need to write an essay before seeing the entire application. Thank you!!

I got into the Newark campus & will be commuting from Jersey City!

Well as far as new applicants go all you need to worry about is the optional essay and the application fee at the end. That’s it. No letters of rec, resume, etc. the application is very bare bones. Idk what differences are in the re enrollment application. Good luck!

Ok so I ended up getting accepted to Newark and New Brunswick. Thinking of accepting Newark.

For the people that got accepted and paid the acceptance fee how long did it take to get access to the enrollment pathway? Does it really take the whole seven days to process? Thanks in advance ??

yeah didn't get accepted to both:( Does anyone know how we can inquire about how we can become better applicants for the summer?

Is anyone else still waiting to hear either way? I haven’t received any communication from RU yet.

Sorry to hear that ? . Having met in person with a lot of the people in admissions/admin for the ABSN program this is what I could gather: (1) GRADES - they want to see as many “A”s as possible. A “B+” here or there is okay (preferably not in any of the science courses, though), but they certainly don’t want to see anything in the “C”s range; (2) Strong essay on the application - they want to feel like you will (a) be able to get through the program and (b) become a good nurse. With respect to “[a]” they also want to see that you have family/friend support in going down this path — a lot of people can’t finish the program not because it is too hard but because they don’t have the support of family or friends; it’s an intense 14 months, where you will need to be committed to the program first and foremost and if the people in your life are not on board with that you probably won’t make it; (3) anecdotally they seem to want to see some history of patient care/healthcare/community service. Seems like they want to know that you’re in it for the right reasons.

Hope that’s somewhat helpful. Like I said, I still haven’t heard from Rutgers one way or another, so I guess take all the above with a grain of salt because I sure don’t know if it was a key to success... That said, I have found pretty much everyone at Rutgers to be pretty friendly and giving of their time and advice, so if I were you I wouldn’t be afraid to call them up or even walk in and introduce yourself.

Good luck!

Edit: Not sure why half my post was bolded, but I can’t seem to un-bold it, so it is what it is.

Thank you so much for the detailed thoughtful reply. I will definitely incorporate your advice and see if I can improve in those areas. I am not really sure how much better I can be in 4 months but I will try my best. Good luck with your admission. I am sure you will get in and do great:)

I also haven’t heard back.

could you please post your stats (for the person that DIDNT get in).

i totally get if you aren’t comfortable with that, just thought it might be useful.

It’s still not open... weeks later. I believe they’re opening it Sometime beginning of November

I'm still waiting for a response as well. My overall GPA isn't great because when I started school in 2004 I didn't care. I guess this is where the essay has to make a big difference. I went to different schools on and off for 10 years while dealing with family issues, but finally finished my bachelor's in biology with a minor in chemistry. I have an obvious upward trend in GPA with it being a 3.6 at my final school.

Science pre-req GPA is a 3.0 but my million OTHER (of course) bio/chem classes are A's. I volunteer in my neighborhood. I've shadowed doctors, nurses and PA's at Columbia Presbyterian.

Not very confident because my GPA isn't competitive, but hoping my essay makes a big difference. If not, I'll be reapplying for summer and also some schools in NYC.
