Rush University GEM Fall 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone!

For those who have applied or are interested in applying to Rush University's Generalist Entry Master's (GEM) Program, I'm here starting a thread so that we can get to know one another and keep each other informed throughout the application process.

I submitted my application December 20th through NursingCAS and completed the supplemental application on the morning of December 21st.

I was e-mailed almost 3 hours after I submitted my supplemental application for an invite to interview for the month following the application deadline (February) since the deadline is January 4th.

Has anyone else already received an invite for an interview?

I'm coming from Bay Area CA, so I'm hesitant as I'm quite unfamiliar with the area. I've heard Chicago is an awesome city to live in, so please feel free to chime in on your experiences with this area as well as I'd love to hear about it. Also, if there are any people currently going through this program, any comments/advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you all and GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi KO-1219. I had my interview yesterday as well and they definitely asked questions about my statement and how my current career applies to nursing. I wasn't expecting those questions, but still am confident that I did well and am trying to be positive about it! It looks like we find out on March 4th according to the website. Best of luck! I'm starting to get even more nervous but am happy that the interview is over!

I am. How can i find you?

Hi VPet. I am setting near the back in the second row. Where are you at?

In the same raw, 3rd from right

Hi, guys! Arrrrrrgh, why didn't I think of logging into this thread while we were at the first look!!

What did you guys think? I really like the last session with the current students. It was easier to picture how our lives will be like being a GEM student. I like that you only go to the class once a week in term 3!!

I was so surprised to see so many out-of-towners, and the number of applicants that they're interviewing! (I remember it was stated they usually interview 120-150 applicants for each cohort, so the number definitely increased this time around.)

@vpet, good luck with your interview! I'm scheduled for Monday morning....

Good luck to us all!! Hopefully, see you in Aug at the orientation!! Happy valentines & stay warm. :)

I don't know about yesterday...I'm kind of discouraged now. So many people...Did Molly say they have 197 interviews and 72 accepted...Uh! I thought, since they were interviewing only for 5-6 days, there would be 60-70 interviews and 30-40 accepted. Apparently there are multiple interviews held at the same time...and everyone I met there seemed great, and everyone seemed to deserve to be there...It comes down to impressing this one person who interviews you. I guess I didn't realize how competitive it was.

Otherwise it was great. Lots of information. The director of the program was very informative and she looks like reasonable person.Looks like first 2 semesters are loaded academically but afterwords it eases down. Finances were scary with very little to no help for students but loans...We'll be paying 70k to them, but still need to charge $26 for the gym membership??? I found that to be a little greedy...Sheryl was awesome, such a worm person...and the session with the current student was really good too. The only thing I was disappointed about is that we were not given a tour. I think I would really like to see the spaces where I will be spending most of my next 2 years, the library, sim lab, gym, where we will eat our lunch, classrooms...just to get that feel, I like it here or n

Cresscendo88, sorry I didn't get to meet you..or who knows, maybe we even talked...hopefully we meet soon. When is your interview? Good look and let us know how it goes.

KodyAllen, it was nice meeting you. Sounded like your interview went pretty well. Best of luck to you!

vpet, my interview is tomorrow at 11am. (I schedule myself earlier in the week, because I wanted to get it over with!!)

I agree with you that we are only being interviewed by only one person is nerve-racking. The one person need to like you, or you're out of luck. yikes! Will let you know how it goes.

When is your interview?

KO_1219, how did you & your GF like the winter in Chicago? It's REALLY nice in the summer, I promise!! LOL Safe trip back to sunny CA!

Safe trip back to you, KodyAllen!

I am going back to Philly tomorrow! Best of luck to you VPET and it was so nice to meet you in person! I am getting nervous with these admission percentages though. My interview went pretty smoothly but they definitely asked some questions from my personal statement! Be prepared for anything. I also enjoyed the First Look program. Somehow I have this feeling that they take attendance at the First Look into consideration for admission!

My interview is on Friday. I took a different approach: when everything is done, i will not be waiting for too long ;)

Good for you VPET! I think that's a great strategy. It's not that far away. I am sure you will do great!

Hey ya'll. I was at the First Look yesterday as well. I wish I had found this thread before! I thought overall the presentations were helpful especially when we heard from current students. When we found out the statistics about the acceptance rate, that really scared me! I can't believe how few actually get into the program. I had my interview this past Friday because I'm from out of state & I felt like it went very well. Now that I know the acceptance rate, it has me freaked out. I can't wait till March 4th! haha

Hi NBS. Welcome to the forum. It is definitely crazy about the admissions statistics. I don't know what to think about it. I feel like maybe they said that to scare us. I felt mine went pretty well too, but it is always nerve wracking to see how your interviewer may feel about you! Best of luck! :-)
