1rst Week

Students General Students

i made it through the first week of classes.

most of my classes are split between younger and older students.

psych looks intimidating, academic writing looks terrifying, biology looks interesting, and, shock of shocks!!!! algebra is not as petrifying as i was afraid it would be.

my study skills lack, bigtime!

i am reading more in this weekend than i have in a long time.

after 3 days, i was ready to sit down, bawl like a fool, and quit............

thank god for my best friend. i sent her a screaming email (none of our classes coincide :( ), and she stopped in algebra just to give me a hug.

i know i will pick up study habits again, and thanks to all that i have read on these boards, i have already been doing my notes over, right after class. i have to find a tape recorder fast though, for psych, bio and writing. i am afraid i am missing too much (probably just paranoid).

thanks for listening........i know it only gets harder..........with the nursing classes :)

so, i will make it through, one class at a time.........and with the help of these boards for support :)

deb - welcome and i'm glad you made it the first week. you'll get the study skills back down with time...don't fret!! if you have problems, don't hesitate to go to your instructors. most are willing to help those who come and ask for it.

good luck to you and know that you can always come here for words of encouragement.

the tape recorder is an excellent way to help study. there have been many classes that i would not have made it through had it not been for my tapes. a few words of advise, decide which classes you really need the tapes for and which ones you don't. the classes that you don't need them for, don't record. i started out recording every class and tried to listen to them all again...it became much more than i really needed and quit recording those i was grasping and things began to fall into place.

again, good luck and if you ever need someone to correspond with, don't hesitate to write.

Deb, Congratulations on making it through your first week. Your study skills and habits will get better with time. Like you said...take it one class at a time...or even better, one day at a time.

Before you know it ...you'll be a nurse. I returned to school after a 10 year "break". and it can be hard getting back into the swing of things, but just remember to keep your eyes on the prize and you'll reach your goal.

First of all....take a deep breath....There...now don't you feel better? :)

Now listen~coming from another student who is going through the same thing as you are....you're gonna be all right. Tape difficult or boring lectures and going over notes is a good way to study. Everything will fall into place soon. HAve you thought of making flash cards? I always liked them, but am too lazy to make them myself.....sad, isn't it? :)

Best of all to you!

thanks..........honestly, i remember reading on a post here, to breath right, for stress, and it stuck with me the first week. when i felt myself tensing up, i would breath deeply, and keep trying to do that throughout the day.

i am buying a tape recorder friday........and i do have index cards, to make flashcards, just haven't done it yet.

think i'll work on some this weekend for psych.....that seems to be the class with the most "new" words in it, right now.

again, thanks for the good thoughts..........and have a good week, all :)
