@paisling

Any advise on what I should study before my cohort starts in July?

I have a solid four months to start studying for the program so I want to get a head start on the information so I’m not entirely clueless. I know some of the students will be already have an advantage working as a CNA or EMT.

I know Pharmacology is a big one so I have started studying some common prefixes and suffixes for drugs. I’ve heard Adult Health is also a killer.

As far as anything else, what would you guys suggest? Anything on Quizlet anyone can link?

What are some of the books in the program that you are using currently so I can start reviewing them?

Any advice or suggestions on what to be studying is great appreciated in advance! I’m going crazy waiting for classes start. I can’t wait!

Thank you so much!!!

Honestly? Don't study ahead. You don't need to worry about other people having an advantage (being a CNA or an EMT does not really give you much of an advantage in the classroom - maybe in clinicals though). Nursing school is more than reading and memorization - you need to have the critical thinking aspect where you understand WHY something is happening, and that makes it difficult to try and study ahead outside of just being generally aware of what some medications and diseases/conditions are.

You're about to start an accelerated nursing program with only two real breaks: a week in summer and 2 weeks at Christmas. NOW is your time to do the things you enjoy, visit friends and family, or learn to meal prep, or start a gym routine. You have 16+ months of studying ahead of you. It's ok to let yourself relax now, because you might not have a chance to relax later.

@paisling

Would it be possible to give any information on what clinical supplies are needed? For example, can you purchase your own stethoscope, etc.? Or, does Roseman require you to buy a package from them that contains the required supplies?

The email says the supply list will be released a month before orientation, but I was looking to get ahead on purchasing things now w/o having to do it during my move to Nevada.

Thanks in advance!

You'll buy all your own supplies. You need at least a stethoscope and probably a pen light - we were told we don't need a BP cuff because we could borrow one but most people bought their own - you won't use it outside of fundamentals lab though.

You also won't need anything right way, you'll have at least a month before you need any nursing supplies so you'll already be settled in. You can probably just buy everything when you go to buy your lab and clinical scrubs.
