ROSEMAN UNIVERSITY ABSN FALL 2019

Published

Application period has just opened for the October cohort so I figured I should start a thread to see how many people are interested right now!

All questions, comments, and concerns about the program and interview process are welcome to be put down below in this thread.

Good luck to the interviewees today! ?

Hope everyone’s interviews went great today!

Please please give us an update on your experience and thoughts about the interview process!

•what kind of questions were asked (if you remember)

•how many interviewers were there?

•how long was the interview, including the presentation and tour?

•anything that might be interesting to share with us?

Can’t wait to hear from everyone who got interviewed today! ?

Hey everyone!

Just finished the first round of interviews. Here's what I was able to recollect:

  • Duration: 12:45PM-5PM (Most finished by 4)
  • There were about 30-40 Candidates
  • Started off with a 15min tour of the campus.
  • Followed by a presentation covering Financial Aid, Program Details (90% Passing requirement), etc. (They provide a folder with most of this info)
  • Afterward, we started the Writing Prompts (~2 PM)
    • You will have 2 choices, you only need to respond to 1.
    • You have 15 min
    • Questions were different for everyone. Mine were:
      • Define Professionalism. Provide examples of how you would exhibit this as a Student Nurse on and off campus.
      • Describe a time where you didn't have enough information to do a task efficiently. How did you overcome that?
  • Once the 15min is up, individual interviews begin.
    • There were 3-4 Interviews going on simultaneously.
    • They called candidates individually, and randomly.
    • Once you're called, you will bring your writing sample and give it to the Student & Staff member who will be interviewing you.
    • Interviews lasted 10-20min, (People finished as early as 2:30 PM and left right after.)
    • My interview was VERY conversational. They asked me:
      • Tell me about yourself
      • Do you have a support system?
      • Why did you choose Roseman?
      • Tell me about a time where you had to go above and beyond, how did that go?
      • Have you ever had to work with someone who did below the standard? What would/did you do?
    • Other interviews were more formal. Interviewers had a list of questions to ask, where they would score you. Questions from interviewees, I spoke to include:
      • Tell me about a time you had to display leadership and motivate someone.
      • Tell me about a time someone challenged your integrity

My advice is to prepare for situational questions where you had to display qualities of nursing:

  1. Professionalism
  2. Teamwork
  3. Motivation
  4. Leadership
  5. Communication
  6. Compassion

And of course, be able to answer: Why do you want to be a nurse?

Lastly, just be yourself!

You're going to do great. If you got an interview, you should be incredibly proud of yourself. ❤️

Thanks @RN_D_Cow! I'm hoping to get into the July interview. Does anyone know when the July interview is?

Do you know if it will be in Henderson or South Jordan?

Hi, I'm a current student at the south jordan ABSN program. With the interviews, they alternate school sites each month. So if this month was Henderson, then next month will be Utah.

Hi, thanks! How are you liking South Jordan? What are some fun activities to do around the area?

Do you know any alumni who've gone onto graduate school? If so, where have they applied to/been accepted/are going to? Is the laptop fee required as I have my own laptop?

I love the south jordan location. I initially put Henderson as my first choice but that location was filled up quickly. The instructors at the south Jordan location are awesome. It depends on what you like to do. Utah is actually really beautiful. I haven't explored it as much because I work a lot but there are a lot of things to do both indoors and outdoors. I like snowbird (cool resort open year round), donut falls, citycreek center, Sundance, park city to name a few.

The laptop is compulsory. There is software on the laptop that we need for our exams called examplify and all the exams are taken on it. Also it makes it easier for IT to help with any technical issues. It's a nice laptop too.

They are actually starting a masters degree program at the school. I believe the first cohort is in January 2020. I do not know of anyone personally that has gone to a masters program after attending roseman. But I'm told that it has been done, but it was not easy as some schools dont understand the lack of an actual grading scale. However, Roseman is a great school and you could always attend their masters program. I can't remember the names of some of the schools that the alumni furthered their education in but they were in the midwestern and eastern states.

As far as getting a job though, you wont have a problem. I know plenty of people that got jobs right out of school both here and in California which is where I'm from.

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum, but I am in the process of applying to Roseman. I just received my application from my advisor. Apparently, even though all of my prereqs were done in May, I was not able to start the application until after I graduated (which was just last week).

I was wondering, do you think NursingCAS will receive a transcript on time from me to submit my application? I was told I had until July 8th, but the sooner the better. I had all but one of my transcripts received by NursingCAS since all but that one were received electronically.

NursingCAS says that you can submit electronically through National Student Clearinghouse, but it never allowed me to submit it, thus I have been resending it for a whole month by mail (which always gets lost :( ). Did anybody else use National Clearinghouse to send electronic transcripts and were able to submit it successfully?

Wish everybody luck with their interviews!

Does anyone know when next Friday we should be hearing as to whether we got in or not? I’m kind of anxious ?
