Roll Call for all Military and VA Nurses and those considering the Service

Published

As the moderator for this forum ... I am interested to know where everyone is from, their background, branch of service (or VA VISN) and what they like the best about Military or VA Nursing .... this forum generally has some really good traffic, and I would like to pull all of us together and get to know one another a little better.

Specializes in oncology,med/surg,psych..

I was a Navy Corpsman ,field Combat medic with the USMC 2nd. bat 1st. Marine div. in Viet-Nam. I used the G.I. bill and got a BSN degree in Nursing then worked at the V.A. Hospital for 34 years before retireing from the V.A.

I worked ever area of medicine but surg. 10 years in ER, 6 years in Psych. 12 years in outpatient procedure clinic. 5 years in med/surg/sicu area.

I now work part time in private hospital psych unit working with combat /active duty soldiers that suffer from PTSD/Chemical dependance/and other psych problems.

I feel that GOD has opened this door for me to serve the war wounded with my many years of training.

Yes nursing has been very good to me and for me. I hope to serve many more years ,GOD willing.:)

Will be new to the AF in two weeks. I'll be stationed at Travis for the first three years.

I just left Tripler last month after a 5 year stay. I worked Med/Tele for 2.5 years and PACU for 2.5 years. Tripler is a huge hospital and I guarantee you will learn a lot. I am currently at Madigan in Ft Lewis and I am enjoying it. The patients, from what I have noticed, are much more sick and in worse shape than at Tripler. Trust me, no matter where you go you will learn a lot and you will enjoy it. Every base is what you make it.

I am a NICU RN who is interested in possibly joining the Army Nurse Corp (reserves). My hubby is not sure he wants me to. He waffles between support and not wanting me to. I have no idea what all the acronyms mean. I met w/ a recruiter but I'm waiting for the medical officer to call me now. So w'll see what happens.

Thanks for the "direct link", I wasn't able to navigate the last address.

Is this schedule for Active and Reserve, or just Active duty?

Sorry,

I found it on the ATRRS website:https://atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc/courseInfo.aspx?fy=2008&sch=081&crs=6-8-C20(RC)&crstitle=AMEDD+OFFICER+BASIC+(RC)+(OBLC)&phase=2

For RC---

I am worried the Oct class is going to fill, before I get my papers----yikes

What could possibly take so long?

OTD2,

Just to be sure, you are aware that the link above is for FY (fiscal year) 2008 and most of the classes (1-3) have passed.

Thanks Beanseye,

I did check FY09. I have a question. for FY08, the on the Aug. session, the max allowed is 180, yet the "capacity" states 182----do they sign up extra people incase there are cancellations? Does anyone know?

Thanks :)

Hi Beanseye,

I am enrolled in the Aug.08 OBLC as an active duty RN and was told there were 200 RNs enrolled for this course. Not sure if the active duty people and reservists are all in the same class, but the Army Nurse Corp personnel informed me that this class has the most people because of summer nursing school graduates, not all of whom have taken the NCLEX yet.

Hi,

This brings up another question. Do Reservist and Active duty attend the OBLC classes together or are they separate? Do they ever go over the LIMITS for class size (incase of cancellation)? I knew August would have a "bumper crop" with new grads, can you attend before passing your NCLEX?

August

Arrive 03 Aug, 04 Aug 2008 to 06 Oct 2008Active schedule
