Roll Call for all Military and VA Nurses and those considering the Service

Published

As the moderator for this forum ... I am interested to know where everyone is from, their background, branch of service (or VA VISN) and what they like the best about Military or VA Nursing .... this forum generally has some really good traffic, and I would like to pull all of us together and get to know one another a little better.

:yeah:

this would be me, considering naval service. i am new the allnurses.com - i have contacted a medical officer recruiter recently, have filled out some med forms, sent my resume, and am working on the application. i did post on another thread, but wanted to join in on this one too. this has been a great resource, reading through the wealth of info on this site, thank you all :)

fiscal year starts october...i was (also) told the 'quotas' have been met for the current fiscal year. i complete my bs 12/08 and am an rn/adn currently. what should i make sure i get 'completed' by 10/08 to ensure the best possible standing as an officer (by the time i graduate in 12/08)? any thoughts, advice, and guidance is much appreciated.

CONGRATS. I will be attending OBLC on the 16th of Aug and am a mixture of excitement :yeah:with a dose of fear:confused:. I am 45 years old but I am proud to be able to serve my countgry in this capacity. and My sons are just as proud of me, the are all in their 20s now ( my baby just turned 20 yesterday), in college so i felt this was a good time for me to do this.

we must all stick together and encourage each other.

be thinking of me next month.

I am planning on joining the Army Reserves in the next couple of months. I am a 7 year veteran nurse with experience in Progressive Cardiology and Cardiac Cath Lab.

Hi Arm.E

I took my USAR oath back in November but had to commission on a delayed entry due to schooling. I will be attending OBLC on 14 Oct. I also have children, 4 of them :o) Any advice from your experiences at OBLC would be welcomed!

Army Nurse 2B,

Thanks so much for your message! Good luck to you as you pursue the process with the USAR Nurse Corps! Please keep me posted as you move along in your journey. Best to you!

GetnPhD,

Congratulations to you!!! I actually have not attended OBC yet and I am not sure if I will make the Oct class as I am not in the system yet in order to be able to secure a slot. So I will be looking for your guidance regarding OBC! Best to you and please do keep in touch! Best, Arm.E.Girl

Arm E. Girl...

I will definately keep you posted!!! I wish I could make this all happen tomorrow, but I know I must be patient...blah blah blah.

Army Nurse 2 B,

Patience is something that you need to have. I have been waiting for a year, so the end of the journey is drawing near!

Once you get boarded, the time should go by faster, unless there is a reason why you need to delay your start date. I had schooling issues to deal with..but now am ready to go :)

Best of luck!

Hi Arm.E.Girl,

You never know, you still have time to get boarded and attend the Oct class. If you do, we will have to meet up! If not, then I will keep you posted. Best of luck in your journey!

GetnPhD,

Clarification..I am already commissioned so thank goodness for that!!!! One less timing issue. I agree too with your comment re: board time; once you are notified of your selection by the board it moves quickly. Overall, The Army does a great job with recruiting timelines I have found. Congrats on getting the schooling issues done. Looking forward to serving with you! :yeah:
