Hi Ni_Ni,

I took all but 2 of the required courses through excelsior and decided I wanted to go to the Universitiy so I could get the clinical experience, (after working in LTC all that time I felt I probably needed it) Anyway I will graduate in May so all is well. Congrats to you by the way. And welcome to the group, all of you all.:yeah:

ebten 10--I am go to MNWest (I also got my LPN from this school). The campus is located in SW MN. The program is an actual onsite program, but they have an online section, so I still get the clinical experience and all the other stuff.

thanks for the encouragement.......... i needed that , im not sure what practice test you are refering to ...............do you mean the one that excelsior sell for 60 buck?

yes. I found them very helpful

hi o2banurse. I am also an LPN working in maternity in a small hospital and I am also going for my RN. I chose the Excelsior route and it has worked great for me! I just passed the "horrid clinical weekend" and it was much easier than I anticipated!! I passed everything through first time with no repeats. I say this is a great program and don't let the clinical scare you off!! As long as you prepare and know your clinical elements (which honestly some of them are just 'no-duh's') the weekend will be a breeze. I would recommend one of the workshops as well. I was really nervous coming from three years sole experience on an OB floor and not really remembering much of my med/surg from school. The assessments you have to do though are really easy and they do try to give you easy patients!! Hope my opinion matters.

well i wish there was some lpn to rn transition schools in my district i live in ny and there arent many schools thats why i had to do the distance learning program, i got discouraged with my first excelsior test because of the first test i took i failed :banghead:but im gonna try again. its so nice to hear all of the sucess stories i hope im next:nuke:

I would have thought that any university would offer the bridge program.

You know you shouldn't feel bad about failing your first test through Excelsior because you really didn't know what to expect or how to study for your first one.

It is really hard to go back to a regular class and work your butt off for a whole semester for a few credits after being able to just study at home for a couple of days, run down test and walk out with your credits in your hands, using excelsior. Either way you decide on you will end up with RN behind your name. Good Luck to all.:nurse:

:clown:thanks for the good advice im just gonna try harder next time but i better pass next time lol

I'm thinking I might be the oldest lpn to rn student(57)I can't believe it will take me 3.5 years to finish! am currently taking a&p,pulling an A so far(1/2 done).the hardest part of the class is over, inst. said.I'm beginning to think I'm nuts for doing this, as I also need to work 3 pm's a week. will anyone even hire a 61 yo rn,besides ltc?is this cost effective?I do everything the rn does in ltc,why not be paid like 1?

Hello,

I just have to ask, why 3 and 1/2 yrs?:confused: Even with the pre reqs it will have only taken 1 1/2 yrs for me. Be careful they may have you taking more than you really need. They do it all the time.

I was also wondering about 3 and1/2 yrs. i got my LPN in NY and it took 9 months. Are you doing one class at a time?

CC here has 2 options for LVN to RN. The 30 unit option wich would take 3 semesters, I think it includes the necessary pre rec's. And then option b, after you complete pre recs, FT about 2 semester (i think). Then you test into the RN program and maybe able to forgo the 1st and second semesters. So LVN to RN at CC here can take from 3-6 semesters. I have only read the info briefly since FT is not possible for me and doing either PT would take forever. So I'm still shooting for LVN to BSN with ISU.

I do plan on going back to talk to the college people, cuz I'm thinking also this is nuts! they didn't give me much fot being an lpn for 33 yrs, maybe 16 credits.now i'm taking a& p i which i also had prior, but they can't give my a&p 2 unless I retook 1 from them. then I'ts 1 semester of micro(buy itself, cuz I work 3 days a week)then I still don't knowwhays next. I think I have to do clinicals too, the first semester,(the 1st yr is actually the lpn schooling)which again is ludicrous 4 me to have to repeat! I suppose this is all becuz it's a community college, not some hot shot 4 yr college!
