I just wanted to say congrats to all of you starting your journey into the land of STUDENT PRACTICAL NURSE! I am from Dayton and graduated from Rets Tech Center in Centerville in Dec 05 and became licensed one week ago! If I may let me give some good advice (1) ALLOW YOURSELF TO HAVE AS MUCH OF A LIFE AS POSSIBLE, trust me when I tell you, YOU WILL NEED IT (2) IF YOU NEED TO CRY AND THROW YOUR BOOKS, DO SO (3) If you need help, ASK FOR IT BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM (4) MAKE SURE YOU LEARN AND UNDERSTAND THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF A&P (BODY STRUCTURE), THIS IS IMPORTANT! When you take Adult Health Deviations which introduces various disease processes, those basic concepts of a particular body system will be needed to understand the disease process; ex: Diabetes (the disease/disorder), the endocrine system (the relative body system), pancreas (the organ that controls the secretion or lack of secretion of insulin). (5) NEVER GIVE UP! UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE ALLOW SOMEONE (teacher, clinical instructor, fellow classmate) TO DETER YOU FROM YOUR GOAL, EVER! In this program CONFIDENCE IS KEY. IF YOU LOSE CONFIDENCE YOU WILL LOSE YOUR WILL TO GET THROUGH THE PROGRAM. (6) Understand that you will have good days and bad days and that everything you learn will not always come easy because everybody learns different. (7) Lastly REMEMBER THIS, NO MATTER HOW MANY "A's" or "C's" you or your classmates get, AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE AS EVERYONE ELSE THAT SAYS "GRADUATE OF LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE PROGRAM.
With that said, again congratulations on your accomplishment of getting into the program of your choice and MAY YOU BE AS HAPPY AS I AM KNOWING THAT I AM NOW AN OFFICIAL LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE! :roll

Hey Melissa, are you going to RETS? I'm at MVCTC...started in Jan of this year, hopefully get done in Dec...lol...all i can say is when ever you have time, try to read ahead, never know what can happen that you will get behind. And always ASK questions if you don't understand something! Good luck!
