Roll Call Hillsborough community college Spring 2012 Nursing

Published

I havent found any threads on the Spring 2012 Nursing program, soo i figured id start one! I have already recieved an Email saying everything has been recieved, just waiting on my letter to see if I was accepted! Does anyone know when theyll be sent out? Has anyone recieved that email yet? :redpinkhe

For those that are in the DM evening class: Can someone forward me the email the teacher sent out please w/ the welcome info and clinical site info? I didn't get one and now I'm freaking out. I'm going to email the teacher to let her know but I don't know if she will check her inbox over the weekend. Please Please Please! Look me up on the class email list. My name is Wendy Willis. Thank you!!!

FutureNP1, I sent you the instructor's email. I'm in N/W with you,

a_pattee & bijin05. I also can't do a study group for the same reasons as bijin. I'd like to read ahead but have only bought an NCLEX review book so far. I was on the bookstore website and for kicks I added all the books for NUR1213C into the shopping cart (including the optional texts). It all came to a whopping $1050.

I'll probably be going to the bookstore this week to get the required box, so if anyone knows which supplemental books are most important to pick up please let us know, thanks!

I'm too in Nights/weekends. I bought the box as well and of course used the coupon. I was planning to wait until the first day of class to buy supplemental/additional books, maybe we can be sure of what we need. I'm planning to read from the calculation book, but I don't remember the chapters # they said to read at orientation.

Hi Bital, one of the student nurses who spoke to us said to read the first 8 chapters of the math book.

i can't buy my books until the week before classes start. really sucks, because i do not have the money to buy it now.

i have been buying a little bit of my supplies, a little bit at a time. i have 2 patches, my bandage scissors, and my pen light. i have the order form for the name badges ready to go, but i'm going to wait until next paycheck to get that ordered. i still need to buy the uniforms. there is a woman at church who is cleaning out her garage, and i'm hoping that some of the uniforms she is giving me are the colors we need. really sucks. woman at work gave me a white top and i got all excited, until i saw the stains on it. :-(

i am so nervous/scared and ready to go at the same time! it's almost here.

i don't do well in study groups. i tend to help others learn what they need to learn, and forget to learn what i need to learn; but i'm not completely against them. i do however, love to study at the library. no kids, no work, no husband yelling at the kids, no me yelling at the kids. i just wonder when i'll find time to go to the library.

i hope my family is ready for me to be absent and unaccounted for ; i hope i'm ready for it.

@a_pattee...same boat as you, have to wait until bookcharging to buy the books. I did go on amazon though and buy the edition before the one we have in both the calculations and the nursing fundamentals books for .01 each plus shipping..total was like $12 for both books, figured I could use these to read until I'm able to pick the package up Jan 3rd. Going to use my husband's bookcharging account to buy my bandage scissors, patches, jacket, and penlight. Asking for a stethoscope, shoes, support hose, and watch for Christmas. Going to buy just one set of scrubs to get through the first two weeks of class, then buy the rest of the scrubs when I get my fin aid refund. I too have the badge form all filled out, just waiting for an extra $21 (buying three b/c I have a tendency to lose things).

All of this at the same time as buying Christmas for two teens and a 9 year old, and my hubby while on unemployment and my hubby's unreliable/usually half of what they are supposed to be, checks. LAWD...wish they would release fin aid funds early for those in Health Science programs!

As for study groups, we can do online ones too...one of the ways that I tend to study best is writing everything down over and over, typing works for me too, so we can all exchange notes, if that for works for anyone. I think it might be helpful especially considering the fact that we are all in various classes. One instructor might explain one thing really well, while another does not, and vice versa. I am glad that we all have this avenue though, it will be a great resource during the years to come.

@KikB, I live in a three room suite at a big hotel on the corner of Busch and Nebraska, right off I-275. We've got a gigantic area with free coffee (plus drinks that I have, bottled water, canned soda, etc), couches and tables and plugs for laptops in the Atrium lobby. We've also got an indoor pool and jacuzzi for relaxationnnnnnnn! :-P And if ever there is an opportunity to meet in the morning, there is free breakfast: bagels, waffles, cereal, muffins, cinnamon rolls, juice, and milk. Eventually they are going to open a barbecue place in the restaurant here, so sometime or another, there will be that too for study sessions (although, not free, unfortunately).

a_pattee and rn_training, I can feel your pain. I have to wait a few weeks in order to buy my books. I work full-time plus a part-time job and have 3 kids (5yo and 6 month twins) and a husband. My husband stays home with the kids but with the twins it is so hard. I don't know how I am going to study with work and family but I have to do it. I have delayed the nursing program so long.

As for study, I like Rn_training's idea, online notes. If there is a day that I can't attend class, I hope you ladies will share your notes with me.

Absolutely will share notes bijin05. The better we all do collectively, the better co-workers we will have in the hospitals/offices! I'll do my best to share everything I come across that I either write down, or hear of, or find, etc regarding stuff that we learn.

thanks RNtraining, by the way, are you in the DM evening?

Nope...DM afternoons, I had planned on doing DM evenings, but on further reflection, decided that if I were to be occupied nights and Saturdays, I would never get to see my hubby as he works days...of course, now he decides he wants to start the EMT night program this coming up semester...so I could have done the DM Evenings, *rolling my eyes*

But I think collaborating with you and others who are in different campuses and classes can only be a benefit. Perhaps there is something that I or other do not understand the way our instructor is explaining it, but your professor explains it better, or vice versa. Allnurses has been a godsend, and I think it will prove to be an even greater one as time goes on. I feel so blessed to have "met* you all :-)

I agree, I think the sharing of notes is a GREAT idea. What kind of format should we use though? Or maybe the question should be where should we share? I like the idea of a "virtual" study group.

Have any of you recieved the e-mail that your file is complete? I got mine the other day, and even though I'm IN the program, I still feel that excitement as if I'm just finding out I've been accepted.

I hate waiting so long to have to get books. I feel like I'm going to be so far behind, because others have gotten books early on.

My husband too stays home with our children. I have 4, and it was actually cheaper to have one of us stay home, than to pay for day care expenses. At the time, I made considerably more than my husband did. Unfortunately, now it's difficult to get a job when you've had steady employment, let alone being "out of work" for over 7 years; so I must maintain my job while in school. As much as it sucks, it is nice to know I'm not alone in this endeavor though.

a_pattee, are you in the evening program? If so, we can help eachother out.

I do like the idea of "virtual" study group.

RN_training, of course, we can share notes and help eachother out. There is no big secrets that we cannot share.
