Roll Call Hillsborough community college Spring 2012 Nursing

Published

I havent found any threads on the Spring 2012 Nursing program, soo i figured id start one! I have already recieved an Email saying everything has been recieved, just waiting on my letter to see if I was accepted! Does anyone know when theyll be sent out? Has anyone recieved that email yet? :redpinkhe

Yea unfortunately I was not able to switch. The people that did switch were able to arrange an even swap with another person (to my understanding). The others most likely will get switched because there was an error with GPA's. Some people who had 4.0 and a little lower did not get their first choice so that issue has to be fixed...the odds are not in my favor. It was nice meeting all of you and good luck with ur future nursing endeavors!!! :)

So who here is actually already in the DM evening class? For those who were trying to switch, what did she tell you about when that decision would be made? I was thinking about creating a facebook page for DM evenings, that way we could organize study groups for December to review some A & P, the clinical calculations and the fundamentals. Also, after class starts it would be good to have that as a common resource to post questions about things you are struggling with and if anybody knows the answer they can post back. If anyone is interested, let me know. I'll probably create the page by the end of this weekend and it will be named "HCC Nursing- Dale Mabry Evening Spring 2012", so just look it up and do a friend request. :)

She didn't really say or give a timeframe. I know she told KikB that she would email people individually I believe by next week. Also, in regards to setting up a study group, you can just send a mass email on HCC campus cruiser because you are all assigned a specific campus and you have access to those DM evening people. Enjoy your studies guys and good luck!!!

I'm DM N/W

I think there were a LOT of screw-ups. Hard to believe that HCC has a great nursing program with all the hiccups along the way before you even GET to nursing.

Seems like this is a "normal" problem for them.

Hello everyone... I hope orientation didn't freak anyone out... I think they tried to put fear in us what about u? I was no able to switch my classes as well. I'm really disappointed and depressed about that... I'm still praying!!!

I'm DM nights too. KikB and Simmola, I hope everything works out for you guys. Orientation was definitely a scary movie......But we are not scare, RIGHT?

Hi a_pattee! I had my sign, but I didn't get there until literally 8:29, for some reason, whenever I PLAN on being somewhere early..something happens to mess it up...in this case it was my husband's wallet went missing...turns out of course..it was in a pair of pants that he didn't check in, but by the time we found it I was running 20 minutes later than I planned on running. Grr. Then we get to campus at 8:20, and parking was, well...I'm sure all of you noticed the parking, unless you were lucky where I was not and did get there pretty early like you planned. It is what it is..at least I got there...but yea, I had planned on being there about 8am and then standing outside the auditorium with my sign, once that went out the door, I didn't want to walk through the auditorium with a big ole sign when orientation was SUPPOSED to be starting. (Of course...even though it said 8:30, it was more like 9:15 by the time things would get going....)

As for orientation goes....I dunno, I figure that they have a lot of people who get into the program and then go "Oh I didn't know it was going to be this hard or time consuming!" So I guess they figure that pounding the time commitment thing into our heads will deter those who seem to think they will be able to breeze through this. And if it doesn't...then no one can say they weren't warned when they try to complain later. I wasn't really scared...more a little overwhelmed. I wish that with out acceptance letter they had sent the physical form and immunization list. I mean, they sent the background check form...why not the other ones? That way we had more than three weeks to get all of this done! Of course, I KNEW they would need the physical, but you have to get it done on "their" form, AND, of course...I knew I would need all the immunizations and what not...but not exactly which ones, so...I just think it wouldn't of been that much more work to stick that paper in the envelope along with the background check form.

Another thing I think they should is do an optional one day orientation/class or something for nursing students to bring their spouse/significant other/roomate/family member/whomever...to so that those who are, while not going through the program themselves, going to be affected by US going through the program, can find out exactly what we are going to be hit with once we start. It is one thing for me to tell my hubby "Hey, ya know...when I start this, I'm going to be spending most of my time studying/reading/class, so I'm probably going to need you to step up and help out when I can do something, like dishes/cooking/cleaning etc. Also, I'm going to need you to be okay with staying in a lot more, and not going out a lot, and help me keep to a schedule." While our families understand what we are telling them, I don't really think it can truly hit home when it comes from our mouthes..after all, we haven't truly gone through yet..so, it could be interpreted that we are exaggerating. I think that if they were to hear a lot of what we heard the past two days, they would be more apt to really believe it, and I would feel more confident about them knowing what they are getting into...being married or insert relationship here, to a nursing student.

Anyways, I hope KikB/Simmola/Whomever else, that you all have some sort of divine intervention and a miracle happens. If not on the part of the nursing program, on the part of your work. :redpinkhe

RNnTraining I was thinking the same thing about the orientation for the spouses/families! I mean especially for us female students because men always think we are exaggerating...lol. My fiance has always been very understanding but even as I was exlpaining to him what they were saying in orientation I felt like he thought I was making it sound worse than it really was...lol. They should at least send a letter or something for the significant others to make them understand that this is no joke!

Greetings everyone!!! I've been so overwhelmed with so much information my brain has been fried and I know some of us has finals coming up too so it's way too much right now! I really hope those who have schedule complications gets it resolved!!! I really wanted to meet y'all at orientation but seriously I had no idea where anyone was! :p

I had the Dale mabry morning schedule but I got switched to the afternoon schedule! Yay!

I agree about them should've just gave us a heads up about the types of immunizations we have to get and all the other information. Lol very short time to get all this information in but we can do it y'all!

Future NP1, let me know when you make that facebook page. I will be going to dale mabry evening/weekends and i work full time during the day but would love to be able to get together and study with people if i am able to. also, has anyone been able to start their baycare training? i signed up either tuesday or wednesday and i cant figure out how to navigate around or what i need to do/where to go once i am logged in to get started.

WAIT, scratch that, i just back and read the instructions in my original email from them. DOH :) figured it out!

I am in the evening session, DM. If I had not deferred the nursing program in Fall 2010, I believe this would be my last semester. I got accepted into the Fall 2010 evening but did not realize that it was in Plant City. I live in Riverview and work in Clearwater and driving to Plant City was not an option and quitting work is not an option either. I then got accepted again for the Spring 2011 for Dale Mabry evening but this time, it was pregnant with twins. Hopefully, the third try will be a charm and no more obstacles.

Good luck to everyone. We all should stay in touch and help each other out.
