Has anyone recieved that email yet? :redpinkhe
Hey everyone! Sorry it has been a couple days since I was active. I've been practicing my nursing skills on my sick husband :-P
Welcome KThanhN! I too am in the DM afternoons...we will be classmates with Ddaners!!!! Yea! PLEASE let me know what day you schedule your CPR class for, I want to do it with you!!!!
I am going to be holding a sign at orientation that says Allnurses..just look for the dark haired girl who looks like she has enjoyed a bit too many Big Macs
:-P .....I might look crazy...but at least I will get to meet all of you.
Anyone know of any good stores that sell Plus Size scrubs? Yea...I'm fat lol...what kind of stinks (but actually is good) is that I had weight loss surgery in January (I've lost 92lbs since then) BUT I'm expected to lose another 100 or so lbs...so I will be buying uniforms often as they outgrow me. Boo. So I am definitely going for the cheapest ones I can find. I'm assuming Uniform City, and the various online places all sell Plus sizes?
36 more hours!!!!!
Also @ FutureNP1, I too plan on becoming a nurse practitioner. Did you get a chance to read my post (or did you already know) about the Accelerated Graduate Program at USF that offers you the ability to get your bachelor's and master's in NP in just one semester? I just found out about the program last week, and I was amazed. I was expecting another three years of school after HCC to get my ARNP...not 1 semester!
RnNTraining the program that you are referring to is longer than 1 semester. They have two options the first one is for students that do not have a bachelor's degree and the other is for those who hold a bachelor's degree in another academic area (besides nursing). To enter the program as a "part-time" student requires approximately 5 semesters so I would assume that a "full-time" status would be about 4. The Master's Nursing program at USF normally takes two years, so due to the content and the fact that it is already an accelerated program (two degrees), it is not feasible to complete it in only 1 semester. I hope this helps! :) Here is the website http://health.usf.edu/nocms/nursing/AdmissionsPrograms/Masters.html
Hope to see you ladies on Wed! :)
(Making my allnurses.com sign as we speak!)
Ohhhh. Aha! I was confuzzled so I went to the website and spent a couple of minutes scratching my head *totally sure* that I was correct...except I then realized...wait a second..Simmola's right..that doesn't make a lot of sense does it?
Here is what I was doing...I was reading the coursework, which is a total of 15 credit hours, and thought that those courses were the sum total of the accelerated program. Except of course, they all begin with a 3 or 4 which are most definitely undergraduate courses, not graduate level. So yep, sure enough, once those are completed, THEN you get to start on Master's coursework which according to the website are 41-73 credits long.
I then had to read this over again and again...because my heart didn't want to believe what my eyes, my head, and you were telling me. :-(
THEN..I had to tell myself "It is okay...soo...just another year or two....really..what is the difference between 1 semester and 3 or 4?"
Sigh. Thank you for pointing that out to me...I might have discovered it eventually, but then the letdown would have been a lot worse...in the meantime I would've repeated a lot of incorrect information to people, and probably have looked really stupid while doing so :-P I think I got so excited, and deep down was so incredulous about getting it done in 1 semester (thinking of the *lots of $* therefore giving my hubby the opportunity to stop working for a while and follow his dreams himself) that I didn't let myself look deeper to verify what I was reading was true. Sorry guys for posting inaccurate info, I won't do so again!
My husband just tried to kill me. We are sitting at the dentist, waiting for him to get his wisdom teeth out, when he says "didnt you have orientation today" I said "no...it is wednesday and thursday...right?"he says " huh.i thought I saw tuesday and wednesday on the paper" of course logically I knew better....however there is this little part of me that seems to believe that I'm going to mess this up somehow, so I started panicking...my letter is at home and we can't exactly leave right now, and of course the longer I sat here, the more my mind toyed with me, insisting that I was wrong, it actually was today, and I missed it and now I'm going to be thrown out of the program. Luckily, this website is here, so I was able to scroll through until I found the orientation time and day posted. Whew. The only thing that is saving my husband from certain death via angry wife is the fact that a dentist is cutting his mouth...
RnNtrainng--Yes, I did know about the USF program but University of Tampa has the same program and I've always wanted to go there because the campus is so beautiful. Plus, maybe they just do a better job at promoting the program on their website but UT's just seems like a more comprehensive program. Yeah, sorry it isn't one semester like you thought. That would have been awesome but it would probably have left us ill-prepared to actually be NP's. There are the bachelor's level nursing courses you have to get through plus all the "standard" bachelors requirements like the 8 credits of foreign language, certain number of credits in fine arts, humanities, and I think we have to take another science class or 2, plus the grad level courses.
Hi everyone, its been a wile since my last post. I want to say thank you for all the links and info that some of you had posted. I have been reading all the post and I have gathered info for tomorrow. I have to say I am very nervous about orientation, but very very excited. Thanks to the person that posted the info about the cpr class at the fire station. I called and made an appt for the 19th, anyone interested to meet on that day? Hope to meet all of you tomorrow.:anpom:
