I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!
Scope still not hear...M did email me back that she received my letter. Thanks for the info on the uniforms...this takes out so much of the guessing game for me. I dont like to research anything...so I am just sitting back reading yalls info and going for it. So thanks. The more we get done now the more time we have in November and December to just read and get ahead on med calc. I just read a topic about a nurse giving an infant 10 times the dosage it should have received in the NICU and the baby didnt make it. This is the part that scares me...I am so thankful that I have this forum to read about things like this happening. When we become nurses, no matter how busy and how much they understaff us I will triple check when I am giving any meds...And then check again. Just wondering if yall have the same concerns. It was an interesting thread to read...lots of support was given to the nurse and the family.Back to uniforms happymomma what can we wear under scrubs.....white long shirt? This semester feels like it is flying by now that we know we are in.
I most definitely have the same concern, we will have peoples lives in our hands and that will be the biggest responsibility of our lives! We have a responsibility to ourselves as well as our future patients to learn and be as prepared as humanly possible before we take on our roles as nurses. That is such a tragedy about the loss of that baby, my heat goes out the both the family and the nurse involved!
As for under our scrubs as far as I understand we can wear long sleeved white or black shirts, or we have the option to wear a lab coat in white or the same wine color as our scrub top (correct me if I am wrong guys). I personally will be going for the white long sleeved shirt mostly because first I am not one for bulk and I know I will feel like the lab coat is just in my way and white because it matches our pants. I may change my mind at some point but I will deal with that then so for now I am just going to get a couple of long sleeved shirts.
Happymomma, I haven't decided whether or not I'm gonna get a lab coat. I want one, only because I don't want to get anything on my scrub top/undershirt for sanitary reasons...but you are right, it's going to get in the way AND it will be a drag to have to carry it around when I don't want to wear it. The 3/4 sleeve ones look nice though, and they wouldn't be as 'in the way' as the long sleeve ones, during hand washing, etc. I am happy that today is the deadline for everyone to have their info returned and appeals in! I am SOOO ready to have my camus assignment...someone should email M.F. tomorrow and ask when they will be sent, because by then she'll know how many appeals were filed. I can't email her again, poor lady, I have bugged her soooo much. lol She told me that they would be mailed the middle of Oct (or the end of Oct, depending on the number of appeals).

I am thinking that the people with appeals are going to have a time frame in which to send in their acceptance letter and checks like we did. This would mean that we wouldn't get our campus assignments until after that. I will end her an email on the in a week or so if we haven't received them and see if she can give us an idea of when they will be going out. I too feel like I have been bugging her with all of my emails, she must be used to it by now though since she goes through this with people every time the process starts over with a new application period.
SOOOOO excited to order my scope on Friday, I have decided on the Plum and I think I may just get my whole first and last name. :) My name has 12 letters in it so if yours fit with 15 then I know mine will fit as well. Let me know when you get your scrubs in and what you think about the top.
Happymomma, I'm not sure how the admission procedure works for those who filed appeals. Since M.F. said that the campus assignment letters will go out the middle to end of Oct (depending on the amount of appeals), that only leaves HCC three weeks maximum, to investigate each appeal, mail letters to those who are going to be accepted, wait for their deadline to return their letter/check, and get everyone else assigned to a campus and letters mailed for campus assignments....which doesn't seem like much time....but, maybe HCC will get on the ball to finish it all up. lol
I wish there was a way to know how many appeals, so we'd know if we can expect our letters in two weeks or almost a month!
I will let you know when I get my scrubs and how I like that top....It said 7-10 days, so I still have a while to wait. Oh, HCC has their Spring '11 schedule up already and I looked at the Nursing I schedules. If I get the time/campus I want, I'm gonna love my scheduled lecture days!
Just wondering...did any of you put R.N. after your name on the scope? As I hope to have it for quite a few years, I was thinking I might, but then it seems a bit premature...but then again, I do believe in the power of positive thinking :)
Also, FYI... I ordered and received the Landau tops, but sent them back...they were too short for me, and only had one very shallow pocket. I ordered instead a mock wrap from Grays Anatomy, in Wine (it's the same color as the landau top). In the Junior fit, it has some shaping for your figure so we won't look like duffel bags. Also, two deeper pockets for carrying around whatever essentials we'll need on our person. And most importantly for me a few extra inches in length. Just a thought for some of you who were talking about height issues. I'm not tall, but I am long waisted.

Hi! I thought about putting "RN" after my name, but didn't because to me, it would be like someone in Med school putting MD after his/her name before they finished their schooling. lol ~ Are you sure about the Grey's Anatomy tops? I just checked them out online, and it says they're an inch shorter than the Landau Mock Wrap top....25.5" for Grey's Anatomy and 26.5" for Landau...
I think it's because the Landau tops are curved on the bottom. They are longest in front and back, but curve up at the sides. With the Koi pants (lindsey) I ordered they ride a bit lower on the hips, when I lifted my arms... my sides and belly were exposed, not cool :)
Mine may have been a bit off or defective, but I don't have that issue with the Grays Anatomy scrub tops and they're much softer like the koi pants. At 46 the last thing I need is a belly shirt LOL.

Ohhh, I see what you're saying! lol I plan on wearing a long-sleeve undershirt too, but hopefully the Landau will work for me cuz 1) they're already ordered, lol and 2) I got a great deal and I'd hate to have to send them back! I also ordered the Koi Lindsey pants, it's amazing how fashionable scrubs have gotten.
Have you decided what shoe you're gonna go with?
