I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.
My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*
I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)
Wish me luck!!!
I have my scope and all I have done is listen to heart beats and my family breathing. "it all sounds good to me" hee hee but have not clue what to listen for. So my kids keep wanting to play doctor with me now. Lots of fun.Have a great day.
Aww! My kids and I played with mine the day I got it....but now it is put up in a safe place. I really don't want to have to buy another one before the course even starts! ROFL!!
Have fun playing doctor! (In a couple more months, it probably won't be a game you want to play when you're not at school, hahaha!)
I ordered Nurse mates from all heart...don't remember the exact type. But they had a pretty thick sole at the toes and two inch heel. I need the thicker sole at the toes as a Thin soled shoes make the balls of my feet ache after an hour or so. And the two inch heel will keep my pants from dragging the floors...I'm 5'5". I thought slip on would be nice so I could sneak my foot in and out if there's any desk time and my feet are hurting :)Normally, I'm a size 7.5 or 8 in shoes. I went with an 8 wide as my feet tend to swell a bit, but these were really big. I sent them back and requested a 7.5 in normal width. I'm thinking as these are specifically for nurses who are on their feet all day, so they already give you extra width. But they are very, very comfortable.
I'm gonna go to the mall and back to Uniform City to try shoes on to figure out which ones I want, but I'm not sure when yet. I'm not brave enough to order them online because it is SOOO hard for me to find shoes that fit (and that I like). I hope those Nurse Mates work for you!
Just got my lab coat in...I love it!!! :) The stiching on the pockets is a QRST wave from and EEG...How freaking cute :) I ordered Gray's Anatomy 32" white. It's soft, and thicker than the pant material without being overly stiff. Gosh that stiching is toooo cute! And it covers my rear end...vitally important! LOL.
Happymomma, I'm not sure how the admission procedure works for those who filed appeals. Since M.F. said that the campus assignment letters will go out the middle to end of Oct (depending on the amount of appeals), that only leaves HCC three weeks maximum, to investigate each appeal, mail letters to those who are going to be accepted, wait for their deadline to return their letter/check, and get everyone else assigned to a campus and letters mailed for campus assignments....which doesn't seem like much time....but, maybe HCC will get on the ball to finish it all up. lolI wish there was a way to know how many appeals, so we'd know if we can expect our letters in two weeks or almost a month!
I will let you know when I get my scrubs and how I like that top....It said 7-10 days, so I still have a while to wait. Oh, HCC has their Spring '11 schedule up already and I looked at the Nursing I schedules. If I get the time/campus I want, I'm gonna love my scheduled lecture days!
I just checked HawkNet and the registration only had Fall 2011 on there. Where did you see Spring 2011 I am dying to check out the schedules available!
lol, I didn't know they had an AFTERNOON schedule until I saw it on there. Did you? I thought it was only a morning (and then of course the night program).
I had an idea because I looked at the schedule for the Fall Nursing 1, I just wasn't positive they would do that for us (Spring) as well.
I just thought I would share this top I just found, a little bummed I didn't find it before I ordered mine and for those that where having a problem with length this one has a 28.5" length. It comes in a wine color that looks like the right color.

I saw this one as I was looking online...I love it also, but couldn't find any reviews on it. I know I don't want a top that's itchy like the Cherokee scrubs I felt at Uniform City. lol I might just go ahead and try it if the Landau ones that I ordered don't work. Have you gotten your order in yet?
I have an alternate spot so I had emailed M.F. asking when I would know something and she said the committee will meet for appeals towards the end of October and then the additional seats will offered to the alternates. Im thinking its going to be into November before we really know what campus we are at, and if the appeals/alternates have spots or not.

Thanks for advising us of that! When did you email her? If it was after the deadline yesterday, (and based on what she told me about when the committee will meet), then it sounds like they may have gotten a lot of appeals. Ugh, I was hoping to know in a couple of weeks!
