Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011

U.S.A. Florida

I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.

My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*

I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)

Wish me luck!!!

Just wondering if your a current hcc student should I have included an official transcript too? And I did not include my high school transcript did any of you do the same?

Good luck to all.

I called the nursing faculty staff twice and got the same answer, no need to include HCC transcripts. As for High School, she did reccomend checking with the admissions office to be sure, sure, sure, they have them on file.

hello!

i just turned in my nursing application for the spring 2011 term and i actually walked it to the drop box at the dale mabry campus. i totally forgot to get a postcard just so i know they have it in their hands.

as for my transcripts i was very nervous about them because i graduated 25+ years ago under a different name and went to college under another name so i knew if they were mailed no one would know who they belonged to. i actually have a personal friend that works in the admissions office at the plant city campus and she took all my sealed official transcripts and entered them into the system herself. i watched her do it and she gave me a confirmation sheet showing they had been entered. she said that transcripts get lost all the time and she would normally suggest turning everything in with the nursing application. my daughter graduated from high school several years ago and it was a nightmare getting her high school transcript to hcc. i think her high school sent it two times and then we walked it in.

i believe i have a good chance of getting in; however, like everyone else i'm nervous that i didn't "dot all of my i's and cross all of my t's" so to speak...... now it's a waiting game.... i'm in the process of finishing my bachelors degree in pre-law so that will keep my mind occupied during this long waiting process.

of course while i was at the plant city campus having my transcripts entered, a nursing applicant for the fall 2010 came in to find out if his appeal was granted for entrance. apparently they entered his grades wrong so his gpa fell below minimum rate being accepted. if they have entered them correctly his gpa was well above the 3.45 that was being accepted.

good luck everyone!

Hi,

I dropped off my application today. I was so nervous I would forget something, I checked everything about five times before I put it in the drop box LOL. Good luck to everyone. :)

I just got my postcard back and the "My Documents" section of Web Registration list the documents submitted, but the Status says Not Recv'd.

I'm trying to apply for the Spring 2011 program. I was wondering for the $53 check do you make it out to HCC, or is it something more specific we have to make the check out to?

I made my check out to HCC.

Make it out to Hillsborough Community College :) Good luck to you.

I also checked "my documents" on the HCC web-site and all of the documents I submitted were listed but it said not received next to them. I'm not worried about that since it listed all of the college transcripts with each of the University's name next to them.

I wish the nursing review board meet sooner than the Fall to determine which applications will be approved for the Spring 2011 term!

Ditto...the waiting is the hardest part :)

Has anyone's check been cashed? Mine hasn't cleared yet, and I dropped off my application in May.
