RN to work as LPN

Don't settle. RN jobs are more plentiful. I think something will come up if you search hard. Not sure what you mean by "much choice". There are many opportunities for RN's.

I am thinking of working as an LPN because I have never been an acute care RN and that seems to be where most RN jobs are. There seems to be way more opportunity for an LPN now, be it acute care or residential. I am not really bothered by the wage cut.

Well ultimately it's your decision, but I think you're selling yourself short by doing so. Apply to acute positions and see what happens. :) you may be surprised.

I would continue to look for RN work. There are jobs in rural areas, or you might need to try to get 2 casual jobs. What about travel nursing? Relocation? Any contacts?

Aside from the pay cut, you would need to complete the paperwork for the LPN registration, and probably write that exam. RNs cannot just work as LPNs.

What you are all forgetting is RNs and LPNs are covered by different contracts and different unions. No employer wants to even attempt to deal with the hassle of that particulate fight.

How much do you know about the Canadian job market, scope of practice for nurses and employment law?

I don't pretend to know about employment conditions in your state. Do you know the difference between acute care LPNs and RNs up here. Do you know that LPNs are the backbone of LTC and often work without RNs in the building?

If you went to school to be a RN you should try to find a job as a RN in other locations, it's not really fair for LPN's who are trying to find work.
