RN Salary in San Antonio

Published

I was online at the Baptist School of Health Professions website (which is where I plan to attend ns), and it says the average RN salary in SA is $54K/yr. Is this pretty accurate for San Antonio? It also depends where you work, right? Just curious, because that sounds pretty good to me.

That would be about $28.85 per hour for the average 36 hour per week work. IMHO they are stretching the average salary (not taking into account differentials for nights or weekends) by, at least, $4 per hour for the experienced nurse. Think new grads would have to be, at least, $7.00 per hour less. The salary you cite may be average if there are differentials and overtime factored in; but, my experience in North Texas has shown that 'overtime' is usually considered a dirty word by managment :chuckle.

This is inaccurate for the San Antonio area. New RNs typically start at between $18 and $20 hourly, which adds up to about $40,000 per year.

The pay rates tend to be low in SA due to the number of nursing schools in the area. More nursing schools leads to plenty of new nurses being churned into the job market every few months. In turn, an oversupply of nurses in the local job market results in depressed pay rates.

New grads at my hospital, Baptist health system, make $21-23/hr. Pretty close to the same for Methodist system. Christus is a little lower. Smaller hospitals a little more. BAMC pays very well for experience over 2 years and so does university. Pay does not.go up very quickly until after you hit 2 years and move on to your next job.....

Argo, I'm thinking about relocating to the San Antonio area. I was originally looking at Houston and Dallas, but I'm thinking that SA will suit me better. When I relocate I will have 3 years experience as a telemetry RN and my BSN. How much do you think is a reasonable salary I could expect? Also, do you like the SA area? I have two kids, so I hope there are plenty of family friendly areas there. Thanks!

I love san antonio, I have lived here the majority of my life. I am moving up to vail in a few weeks with my wife and 11 y/o. Mainly for the ability to go snowboard every morning while working the evening shift.....

the north east to north central parts of town are really good for families. I would guess mid to upper $20 range on your pay.....

Does anyone know what new grad nurses make at University Hospital?
