RN to MSN

Published

Hello fellow nurses!

I am looking into the RN to MSN program through WGU. Is there anyone out there who has completed that program? What do you think of WGU? What is the difference between the RN to BSN versus the RN to MSN? Thanks in advance for all of your help!

I'm also in the application process as well. There are several students in the research thread but they haven't replied yet. Which track are you considering?

I did the RN to BSN. Not interested in an MSN at this time, but the first portion of the program would be the same. Can only speak for that portion, but I loved my WGU experience and the degree on my wall! I know we have a few MSN graduates here, although the program changed recently and not sure if anyone has gotten through the new classes yet, as they just started in september.

Thank you so much for the responses! I am looking into the MSN-Education track because I really want to have teaching be an option for me in the future. Have you hear anything about that specific track?

Me too! So far everything is going good as far as admission process. I passed the readiness assessments. Thursday I'll have my phone interview.

So I'm not going to attend WGU. I changed my mind and continued with my application at South university.

Well I want to learn more and not just take tests.

I think it's what you choose to put into it, like anything else. The amount you learn depends on you. The resources and materials are certainly there to facilitate learning -- I am WAY more impressed in that regard with WGU than my brick-and-mortar first degree college and the university I went to for my ADN. And you HAVE to learn to pass the assessments, unless somehow you already know everything being evaluated (which will be true for some classes, but not the majority).

I would advise anyone considering the RN-MSN program to wait. There have been a lot of course changes and those of us in these courses are having all kinds of issues. I won't get into it here, just wait until these courses have been looked at and straightened out.

Hello,

I'm currently in the MSN Education track but I'm doing the old track so I can't really comment on the changes. I also did my RN-BSN through WGU and received my BSN last February. I'm currently working on my capstone and hope to finish that by my term end in January. I've honestly learned so much through WGU. I've loved the option of pacing myself through the program and putting what I've learned into immediate practice. The support I've received throughout my program is bar none to anything I imagined. I sometimes feel like a walking advertisement for the school. The only thing I don't agree with is their recent change to not giving the BSN degree when you've finished the coursework for your BSN. I know that's what most schools do, but receiving my BSN while I was still working on my MSN really motivated me to push forward. I wish I could answer more questions regarding the program changes, but all I can really so is offer encouragement. Good luck to you all!
