RN License Reciprocity...

I was originally licensed in NY and moved to PA 3 years ago. It wasn't too difficult a matter to be licensed in PA. If I remember correctly, I called the PA State Board of Nursing to find out about the process. They sent me a packet of information and forms to fill out. It didn't take very long, and the cost was around $200. :) Good luck!

Call the OH BON or go online for an application. You may also have to get an application at http://www.nursys.com since OH is part of the nursys system. What this means is that you will send Nursys $30 or so and they will send OH BON all your info about past licenses within that system. The website may explain it better, but it is for license verification and status etc. You may still need to obtain verification of licensure from another state if it is not part of Nursys.

I would start by going to the OH BON website and finding out what you will need for license by endorsement. I have never been licensed in OH so I can't give you specifics, but I have moved around enough to know that almost all BON are a pain to deal with anyway. Good luck.

I found the OH BON protocols for licensure a little "difficult" to deal with - considerably more frustrating than some other states I have been licensed in. Whether you are needing a "temporary" license or permanent, it was a bit more challenging to say the least. I would encourage you to get a good head start on it just so you don't run it close and have difficulties because of it. If I recall, I think everything you need (forms & Info) is available online via their website.

Wow! I guess I shouldn't start a reply and take a break - others have already covered it pretty well! I don't recall my situation going smoothly or being "fast". Maybe they have streamlined things since I did mine?

Very easy. You want endorsement not reciprocity since you only graduated a few years ago and took the NCLEX exam. Just download the form from Ohio Board of Nursing and send in documents required along with fees.

That is it.

It turns out that CA is not a part of the Nursys system. So, I didn't apply online for it. I filled out the Ohio BON endorsement for licensure application instead.

hey guys! im um...melissa and my parents are rns in massachusetts...they are thinking of moving to california and they wanna know something about...um...getting a license for reciprocity at CA..and i was wondering if any of you guys had uh..done that before...i did some research and all the applications...i dont know it was all very confusing to me..if any of u can help me it'd be great! thanks!

Just to clarify. If I am licensed in Vermont as an RN, then I should only be applying for reciprocity to work in Ohio? I am getting discouraged after reading the requirements for licensure by endorsement as it is like starting all over again.

Please enlighten me on this.

There is no "reciprocity" of licenses. The NCLEX exam is nationally standardized and all US states will accept your NCLEX results, regardless of where you took it, but you still have to apply for licensure in any state in which you wish to work. The only possible exception to that is the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact), but that doesn't apply in this case, since neither Vermont nor Ohio belongs to the compact.

You will have to have an OH license to be able to work in OH. The only question is do you apply for licensure by examination or by endorsement. Since you're already licensed, endorsement is the option that applies to you.
