RN to EMT-B/Paremedic in IL?

U.S.A. Illinois

Hello!

I will be graduating nursing school in one year and want to be a FF/PM as well as a nurse (I know some people who do it; not an entirely unreasonable goal). Does anyone know of a bridge program BSN to EMT-B/P?

Thanks!

I was doing a research on this topic, too :-)

Illinois, unfortunately does not offer bridge programs of this type. Virginia offers this type of bridge in many counties, but it takes a while to complete it...

Here is the link

The other program that is much shorter is in Omaha, NE - only 2 weeks :-)

If you want to become paramedic here in CHGO, I would suggest Advocate Christ Paramedic Program (Oak Lawn, on South Side). First step for EMT-B is twice per week for 3-4 months and costs around $900. Second step - EMT-P is 12-13 months, also twice per week and the tuition is around $4.000.

What about PHRN - pre-hospital RN? This is a license issued by IDPFR and at least in central IL, is readily recognized. I am a volunteer FF/PHRN and have been for almost 14 years.

What exactly is the role of a prehospital RN?
