I'm a new nurse as of last week. (Yay!) I've been looking for online RN-BSN programs that are legitimate and of course, regionally accredited. I've really been considering WGU, but I question it because it simply seems too good to be true! I haven't applied yet, but I plan to call next week for more information. If anyone has any input, advice, or other schools to look into, I appreciate any help! New nurse advice is also appreciated if you have any. :)
Thank you in advance!

I completed WGU's online RN-to-BSN program last year. It took me approximately 10 months, 34 credits, and less than $6,000 in tuition and fees to finish the degree.

After being a nurse for over 20 years, I completed my BSN at WGU in 2013. I'm now doing my MBA in Healthcare Management there as well. WGU is legit! Very affordable, non-profit, and you will get a good education. The BSN was easy for me, all those years of experience really helped me. The MBA is kicking my butt, lol.

Is there any health projects for wgu that require you to go out into the community and find a Heath care provider and do something? Was it difficult and do you have plenty of time to complete that project?
That's incredible. It just seems too good to be true! It's nice to hear from others that it's legitimate! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm kind of considering the RN-MSN and just get it all finished. WGU just seems far too awesome to be legit. :) Thank you for your guidance!

Are you able to work in classes simultaneously? Does your mentor hold you back in any way in completion of courses? I am a diploma prepared and concerned how many credits will transfer and if they are generous or strict with transfers?

Congratulations on your new nurse status :)
I completed the RN-BSN program through WGU two years ago and loved it. I'm looking at the MBA in Healthcare Mgmt and plan to enroll sometime down the line.
WGU requires that you carry at least 12 credits per term. I found the that the main challenge during the program was managing full-time school with full-time work. I didn't have as much free time as I wished to have, so I usually raced against the clock to complete the courses. Many, many other nurses, I noticed, had no trouble completing triple or quadruple the amount of credits each term. I tip my hat to them.
My mentor allowed me to work on any of the courses (up to 12 credits worth of courses) I wanted to work on during the term, so I did do some simultaneous work.
I think I remember reading that a certain mentor would not allow a student to work on more than one course at a time. The mentor did this by only opening up one course at a time for the student. I don't recall this happening to other students.
As far as credit transfers, I thought that they were extremely generous. They accepted classes that I'd taken in the early 80's. I don't think they are as generous now. For instance, I took a Chem class at another school that focused on Biochem for only one chapter. Initially, the Chem class did not meet WGU's Biochem requirement. I appealed to WGU by submitting a syllabus for my Chem class that showed Biochem was included in the studies. WGU granted my request and gave me credit after the appeal. I don't think WGU would be this generous now, and I base my opinion on other students' experiences with meeting WGU's Biochem requirement.
