RN to BSN?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

i thought i would ask this before i attempt it. when college a (state college) offers a rn to bsn and college b (community college) offers an rn (associates) do i have to worry about things like, classes transfering from college b to college a? or can anyone with an associates in nursing and has taken the state test can enroll? im just wondering cause in my case it doesnt even appear that college a has an rn program. only rn to bsn. any advice would be appreciated! thanks in advance.

Although you do have to worry (a little) about certain classes transferring from one school to another, I wouldn't get too distracted by the RN-to-BSN program at the moment. Take it one thing at a time, get your license, and from there.

I think as long as the school where you got your ADN was accredited I don't think there should be any problem transferring credits. There may be a cap on the number of credits you can transfer, but that's about the only limitation I would expect. Your best bet is probably to set up an appt. with the admissions dept. at the state school, bring your CC transcript and ask them which credits will transfer, what additional courses you would have to do, etc. Good luck!

I am in the same boat if I choose to get my BSN. Right now I am not interested. However, being one to keep an open mind I explore all options.

I contacted the schools offering a Bridge Program (RN-BSN) and I found out what classes they are going to accept from my Community College. I found that all of my classes except for two I have not taken yet will be transferable.

The two I have not yet taken they prefer I take at their campus before I apply to the program. If I had taken the classes already, they will accept them only if the courses were taken at a 4-year University.

Anyway your best bet is to talk to a Counselor or someone in the Admissions office of the Bridge Programs you are interested in and see what courses will transfer. Good Luck.

thank you so much for all of the help.

the only way you are going to know what college a is going to do is to look at college a's college catalog where they list the requirements of the bsn degree in nursing. with regard to colleges accepting transfer credits for classes you took at other colleges. . .it is strictly up to each college. college a will make the choice of whether or not they are going to grant credit for classes students took elsewhere on a case by case basis unless they have pre-arranged agreements with local community colleges. i graduated from an accredited junior college with an aa in nursing. when i applied to a university for their bsn program, that particular university's policy was not to grant any transfer credit for previously taken nursing classes. in order to earn undergraduate nursing credit we had to (1) have a current rn license (2) pass a written test the university nursing school had developed, and (3) pass a practical clinical exam where we had to demonstrate competence in performing 4 different nursing procedures. every nursing school has the authority to make their rules on this which is why you need to read their college catalog--the rules should be listed there.
