RN to apply as Phlebotomist

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I'm an RN with no experience,so I took phlebotomy class to have some skills on my resume. Now, I saw openings on phlebotomy, am I qualified to apply for this position?

I am willing to start with this if there's no problem for me applying as phlebotomist.

I don't know where to start, whether to go ahead and apply or ask the Human Resource Office first.

Any advice here is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

They wouldn't hire u if u say u are a nurse. They always hold one accountable to their highest license. That's my take.

My guess is that if you say on your application that you are an RN they will be less likely to hire you thinking "he/she is always going to be looking elsewhere for an RN job. If something comes up, she is outta here." For that reason, it may be a waste of your energies at this point to look for a phlebotomy job.

What you may want to do is to look at plasma infusion centers and mention you're certified phleb or took a phleb class. They usually hire RNs there. I found a few that were advertising RN/LPN/Paramedic spots.

Thanks everyone for the replies, and to you applesxoranges,I will check on that center you mentioned.

Right now where I'm training for phlebotomy clinical portion of my classes,I saw one vacancy.Since I have an

RN license,I was confused how to make a resume to apply on this vacancy.I know I have to be honest in everything I'm going to put in my resume.

Since I don't have any RN experience,I was thinking to apply as phlebotomist first and work for years if hired.I don't mind the rate as long as I can start to have something to say a job experience.I've been looking for RN jobs but having no experience is my failure.

Thanks again.

You can try but the hospitals usually have RNs covered under insurance different than other providers. That's why I was let go of my paramedic job the minute I became an RN. Infusion centers or Red Cross may be the way to go. I know the Red Cross here hires a lot of LPNs so maybe they would consider an RN.

Just be warned that some places do not count plasma infusion or donation centers as true RN experience.
