Hello everyone!
I am looking for current, past, and even prospective students for Riverside's RN program. I will be applying for the September 2013 professional nursing program. For current or past students, what was your GPA and teas score? Also how was the program, instructors, clinicals? I did attend the last open house in December and I was hoping that a student or recent grad would be there to talk about their experience. I love how the instructors seem to be really supportive and the small campus also appealed to me. To other prospective students what start date are you applying to and do you have any other nursing/healthcare experience? Any advice or other information on the program is greatly appreciated!
Ooh ok. Good to know that not working was an advantage for you unfortunately I have to work but I'm cutting my hours way down, but if I find it to easy half way through I might increase my hours but who knows. How many days a week did you have clinicals? We have orientation on Thursday and I just want to know so much! Lol
Awe man, forgot all about allnurses for a minute there, lol. My lovely classmate did a pretty awesome job at summing everything up! One of the best things she already mentioned is studying the info after lecture (which most days I'll admit that I didn't)...studying/reviewing the material the same day as lecture will take you very far in nursing school! I ended up with 2 As and 3 Bs, which I'm happy with, however I know what I need to do next term to fully apply myself and give it my all.
I enjoyed clinicals and I was super shocked about how much my confidence improved. This coming term we won't be partnered up and I'm pumped about that! As far as my work schedule is concerned, I worked Saturdays and every Friday that we did not have clinical. This term it is strictly Saturdays only and I'm already planning on taking some Saturdays off lol... I have been working full time hours starting the day of our last exam, so I'm pooped!
So would you also recommended reading the material before lecture as well because I know at orientation one of the instructors said to do that too? As far as staying organized what tips do y'all have? I bought a planner with a lot of space to write and I'm going to use a 3 ring binder with loose leaf and spiral notebooks as well. Do you recommend taking notes from the textbooks as well or just highlighting and writing in the book? I can't believe the first day is so close! I plan on working Thursday through Saturday.

I am glad you are excited! You are lucky that you don't have nutrition because that is two less credits you have to take. I didn't work so that was an advantage for me. Clinicals were really cool, definitely a lot different from lab. You probably won't get to do all of the skills you learn in clinical because it depends on what is available and everything. We did a lot of bed baths, vital signs, glucometer testing, making beds, and ambulating with patients. By the end of the four clinicals you have you will be amazed at how much your confidence has grown.
